With my friend Ray Baumler's permission, I am sharing with you a song that he wrote recently about our downtown Rochester falcon family.  I let him and his partner Sue know about the falcons perhaps two or three years ago, and they've been watching the cam during nesting season ever since.  Ray and Sue are excellent musicians, and Ray is a great songwriter as well. I'd love to hear them sing it sometime.

A TIME TO UNWIND
by Ray Baumler, copyright 2016

In a nest at the top of a building
The eggs of the falcon were laid
Mother and Father would warm them
And beautiful babies were made

I look at the family each morning
My Macintosh shows them to me
I’m struck by their vibrant behavior
And intrigued by all that I see

Chorus:  I soon must get back to the news online
To learn all the things I should know
But I’d rather be watching the falcons
And observing the little ones grow

The parents are hunting zealously
Food for the young chicks to eat
Feeding the babies, beak to beak
Filling their bellies with meat

The youngsters are growing rapidly
Getting bigger and bigger each day
Still they are mostly balls of fluff
Too young to be flying away             Chorus:

So much of the news is distressing
The good is eclipsed by the bad
Life can be so disappointing
But at times it’ll make you feel glad

The birds are a healthy distraction
Calming my uneasy mind,
Witnessing closely the action
And enjoying a time to unwind       Chorus:
