For the second year in a row, rare peregrine falcons are breeding in downtown Jackson.

Big Red, the female that hatched three young falcons last spring, laid an egg Wednesday morning in a stony nest high on the County Tower Building.

A strong possibility exists that more falcon eggs will be laid in coming days.

Big Red, a 3-year-old Chicago native, and her male mate, Chayton, who hatched in Toledo in 2007, will tend to their egg or eggs for roughly six weeks until hatching.

Nest watchers can view the site via a live Internet video feed that went online Wednesday.

The video link — Jackson County MI Falcon Cam — was installed by the Jackson County Information Technology Department.

We have 5 eggs in Jackson, Michigan!  It's so exciting to see our young couple, Big Red & Chayton, with such a large clutch, after their first nesting of three last year.  Poor Chayton's going to have trouble keeping all those eggs under him!

First hatch today!!!  It will be interesting to see if the other four eggs all hatch.  This poor couple had such cold, awful weather during incubation.
