Three polls have been posted (male name, female name, gender-neutral name). The voting period expires Thursday.

One of this year's eyases will be given either an appropriate gender-specific name or a gender-neutral name, whichever receives the most votes. In case of a tie, the number of times each of the 2 names was submitted will be used as a tie breaker. If that is a tie too, a coin will be flipped.

A voting tip: if you really like a particular male name, don't vote for a gender-neutral name too. You'll be canceling out your vote. The eyas will get a gender-neutral name or a gender-specific name, whichever gets the most votes.

Of course you can vote for both a male name and a female name without canceling out each other.

Oh dear me. :stupid: This is really confusing. I can vote for both male and female names but then I take the chance of a gender neutral name beating out either of them??  if I vote for a gender neutral then I am cancelling out my male / female vote?? I greatly appreciate your allowing us a say in the naming but wouldn't it make more sense if a gender neutral name was chosen only if the sex of the eyas was in doubt??  Or, even better, allow us to vote in all 3 categories and simply choose the name with the most votes??  It just doesn't seem fair to the names that have made the cut to be able to vote in only one of the two categories. Or am I missing something here??

We can each vote for a male, female & gender neutral name.

The whole single vote/cancelling thing is only in the event that there is one particular name that in your mind is THE name and you want to do everything in your power to be sure it has as much of a lead over the others as possible. Still doesn't guarantee anything.

Oh, OK, I finally get it. I've voted in both categories because all the proposed names are such great suggestions.

I wasn't going to be a bad ass, but ...  The gender neutral seem to be really masculine to me.

But I voted in all three categories anyway.

I wasn't going to be a bad ass, but ...

"Bad Ass" would have been a great gender-neutral name.

LOL. And very masculine, yes?

Only if you are admitting to being masculine for being a bad ass.
