David DiPonzio, a firefighter with the Lake Shore Fire District in Greece, was hanging out at Ontario Beach Park about a week ago when he took these photos of a strange-looking crater in the middle of the parking lot

Very interesting!  I had no idea there was an iron mining operation right across the river from where I live.  Thanks for posting, Donna.

Much "newer" than the process that I was familiar with - the old iron mines in Ringwood, NJ - very interesting!

So that's why I've been coughing my lungs out for the last week or two!  I've been breathing in tiny slag particles from across the river from where I live.
