Title: Meet Piper the Red Tailed Hawk
Post by: patsy6 on 23-Aug-13, 10:43:19 PM
I met a very special friend today.  My childhood friend's daughter is a falconer, and she introduced me to Piper, a young red tailed hawk whom she is training to hunt at their home.  Piper is barely out of juvie-dom, having just gotten his red tail feather.

How many fingers did you come back with?

Surprisingly, I came back with all appendages intact.  Piper was mildly agitated when we first arrived, but calmed down quickly.  By the way, both of this young falconer's parents are pilots and she'd like to get her pilot's license as well when she is old enough, so the hawk is named Piper after their favorite airplane, the Piper Cub.
