Title: Help - bird ID please!
Post by: NoraH on 15-Jan-10, 12:16:59 PM
:stupid: Ok, Nora in IA here, but the birds are at a friends house in ABERDEEN, NORTH CAROLINA.  She was leaning towards some type of vireo, but I was thinking more like a yellow warbler or something?  Looking at my bird book they seemed to "round" for a vireo?  I told her I'd check with some of my bird buddies on it.  Any help is appreciated and thanx, Nora

P.S. It looks like there might be a thin yellow bar at the bottom of the wing and too stripy on the front for goldfinches.  Also seems to have a bit of eye ring and darker area near the eye.

They look like female Pine Warblers, I'd say.  This link (http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Pine_Warbler/id) takes you to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's ID page for that species.  If you scroll to the bottom of the page, there's a pic of a female for comparison.

Nice little birds.

Anyone have any more opinions on this bird??  Maybe I should have posted it in nature instead of OT?  Thanx
