Title: Winn Company buys Sibley building in Monroe County Post by: Donna on 18-Nov-13, 08:46:38 AM http://www.rochestersubway.com/topics/2013/11/deep-inside-rochesters-big-old-sibley-building/ (http://www.rochestersubway.com/topics/2013/11/deep-inside-rochesters-big-old-sibley-building/)
WinnCompanies external link out of Boston now owns the property and plans to spend up to $200 Million over the next five years to bring it back to life as mixed-use space. Holy smokes, do these guys have their work cut out for them. You may have noticed new windows and awnings along Main Street? That work alone cost $900,000, and some 2,000 windows have yet to be replaced. :o Very cool building! If you scroll way down, you can hear a clip of the pipes banging from the old steam boilers!! Creepy but cool!! Title: Re: Winn Company buys Sibley building in Monroe County Post by: patsy6 on 18-Nov-13, 09:07:55 AM Thanks, Donna. I have many fond memories of the Sibley building, from the department store to the Sibley Tower Restaurant, going back to a time when little girls wore fancy dresses, hats, white gloves and patent leather shoes when dining out. And I attended perhaps the coolest wedding reception EVER there back in the mid 1980s. It's still a grand building, and I wish the new owners luck.

Can't wait to see the finished deal! I remember walking thru a tunnel of animated figures on the way to see a Santa, that actually looked like the real one. We would spend hours checking out the toys, hoping to get at least one of them. As kids my sisters and I didn't know we were doing the Christmas shopping for my parents.
My Dad worked as a carpenter/cabinet maker for Sibley's, so we'd meet him for lunch and tell him what we REALLY liked. Of course "Santa" would get at least one of them for us. And yes we did meet Dad under the clock! Title: Re: Winn Company buys Sibley building in Monroe County Post by: MAK on 19-Nov-13, 06:52:48 PM I have the same memories of Sibleys as Pat and Linda. I used to ride the bus with my grandma to Sibleys and McCurdys to shop when I was a kid. Great memories!! Thanks Donna!
