It was one of the most difficult watches I've been on. Just very thankful all was quiet today!! I can't even imagine what you all went through! :( Dana, these pictures are heart stopping. I am so grateful you were all there but I can only imagine how terrifying it was. Such a helpless feeling with these horrific battles Title: Re: Pictures from Thursday Falcon Watch - 12/5/13 - The Battle Over Rochester Post by: carly on 07-Dec-13, 06:43:35 AM Heart stopping photos Dana, thank you for sharing.

This one has a very white chest.

Pigott? Title: Re: Pictures from Thursday Falcon Watch - 12/5/13 - The Battle Over Rochester Post by: Wing Goose on 07-Dec-13, 07:21:40 PM Who were the participants in this battle?
Looks heartbreaking. :( :( Lola Title: Re: Pictures from Thursday Falcon Watch - 12/5/13 - The Battle Over Rochester Post by: Dumpsterkitty on 07-Dec-13, 07:40:36 PM Who were the participants in this battle? Looks heartbreaking. :( :( Lola Beauty for sure. As far as I know there was no positive ID on the other female, but I saw in one of Dana's pictures that she is banded. I think it would be safe to say many of us strongly suspect it was Pigott. Title: Re: Pictures from Thursday Falcon Watch - 12/5/13 - The Battle Over Rochester Post by: falconwatcher2004 on 07-Dec-13, 08:41:50 PM I hope I am not repeating what has no doubt been discussed at length, but how I wish there could be another nest box placed on a building closer to the one Pigott is on so she could move and leave Beauty alone. Not living there, I do not know the territory! Or, would it be then a territorial battle? Sorry for my ignorance in this!

Not living there, I do not know the territory! Or, would it be then a territorial battle? Sorry for my ignorance in this! From what I've seen of the area, there really aren't any other tall buildings around BS to place a box on other than a nearby hospital that probably wouldn't be receptive to Peregrines anyway. Maybe some Rochesterians on here could give you a better answer. They have the river, big open parking lot between the dorms and Chestnut S, definitely higher than the Powers Bldg. Wonder if that would work--just thinking. . . Christiane Title: Re: Pictures from Thursday Falcon Watch - 12/5/13 - The Battle Over Rochester Post by: Donna on 08-Dec-13, 06:07:04 PM Doesn't have to be that high, look at Quest! I don't think this is a case for "If you build it, they will come" type of deal! RIT, how high is that?

Christiane I don't know where this is-not that familiar with most areas in Rochester. Is it close to where Pigott is? Aren't most buildings around BS homes or 1-2 story buildings? The photo doesn't show her right wing near her shoulder, but the end of her left wing doesn't look too good.

The one with the gap near the shoulder was the darker of the two, I thought that was Beauty?Title: Re: Pictures from Thursday Falcon Watch - 12/5/13 - The Battle Over Rochester Post by: MAK on 11-Dec-13, 06:34:50 AM Yep, she sure does. That's what I was thinking too, but somewhere I heard differently. Thanks for straightening that out!

And that's what got me confused as to why people kept thinking it was Pigott as I remember MAK saying before that Pigott was smaller than B. This makes more sense to me now too. Thought someone said the intruder was larger than Beauty (I thought P was bigger than Beauty) and had feathers missing near the right shoulder. Title: Re: Pictures from Thursday Falcon Watch - 12/5/13 - The Battle Over Rochester Post by: Donna on 11-Dec-13, 11:06:56 AM Ah, okay. Beauty was bigger, had a notch out by her inner wing and the other had notches out at the end of the wing! Maybe we will never know who it was ....positively! |
