I am so not surprised!  Of course, the Snowies, unlike the local birds, could be trapped and relocated because they are transient.

The Snowy we had at Dulles Airport a few years ago did not seem to pose a significant threat to aircraft, as it did not move around much. It seemed to mostly be an ambush predator, springing into the air after low flying birds.

After many protests and petitions, the disgraceful practice of killing Snowy Owls at New York's airports has been stopped. I saw an item on the news here in Canada last night indicating that these beautiful birds will now be captured and relocated. Possible lawsuits are pending, and the issue of killing other birds at airports is also under discussion.

The organization Friends of Animals in New York, with which I am not familiar, is apparently the one involved in putting an end to the killing of Snowy Owls. Good for them. I hope they will be successful in taking this further to help prevent the killing of other birds at airports.

It too quite a bit of wizardry to make it happen.
