Title: Injured or Stunned Hawk at Thomson Reuters Complex Last Evening Post by: patsy6 on 01-Apr-14, 11:28:06 AM Remember last evening (3/31) when DC was hollering at something, and we thought perhaps it was a gull? Well, mystery solved. This morning at work one of my co-workers shared these photos with me of a possibly injured and stunned juvenile hawk (Cooper's or red-tailed?) near the rear entrance to the Thomson Reuters complex. It was definitely within sight of the nestbox and the rest of the Times Square Building. She thought perhaps it had hit the building, but I wonder if perhaps it tangled with one of our falcons. She wondered whom she should call, other than Animal Control, but it flew away. Hopefully it has recovered and it will stay away.

This morning I spoke to one of the ladies that saw what I believe is a Coopers Hawk yesterday. There's a really good chance that it tangled with one of our falcons. The Coop was seen flying away, so hopefully it high-tailed out of the area, with a lesson learned. DO NOT enter the territory of a pair of nesting Peregrine Falcons! :o

He was really upset for an extended period of time. I thought it was interesting that Beauty stayed at the box the entire time while he dealt with threat!
I'm really happy that the hawk was well enough to fly away. Poor thing. Thanks Patsy! ;) |
