Great picture!  The Kimball Tobacco Factory stood where the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial stands now.

Mercury was constructed at the Siddons Galvanized Iron Works at 84 East Main Street in Rochester.  Click http://www.libraryweb.org/rochimag/architecture/LostRochester/Kimball/Kimball.htm (http://www.libraryweb.org/rochimag/architecture/LostRochester/Kimball/Kimball.htm) for old and new pictures of the statue.  Not sure if the surgery was done before the statue went from the Iron Works to its first home at the Kimball Tobacco Factory or before it went to its second home on the Aqueduct Building.

I heard from people that actually worked on it before it went up to the Aqueduct Bldg.  It is a beautiful statue.
