WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A wildlife rehabilitation group has released a pair of young red-tailed hawks rescued last month from a pier of the Interstate 495 bridge in Wilmington, Delaware back into the wild.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that Tri-State Bird Rescue released the juvenile birds on Friday after state employees found the fledglings inside a stick nest about 60 feet above the ground on a steel grate, hovering over travel lanes. The hawks were too young to fly, and environmental officials were concerned about their safety because the bridge is undergoing emergency repairs.

Officials say the young birds have been released into their parents' territory so they might reunite.
