Title: 1926 steamship wreck found in Lake Ontario Post by: Donna on 01-Oct-14, 09:18:52 AM http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S3575181.shtml?cat=565 (http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S3575181.shtml?cat=565)
The four-man team from New York, Ohio and Texas says it found the wreck of the Nisbet Grammer in more than 500 feet of water about eight miles off Somerset, 40 miles west of Rochester. A six-year search for the sunken ship ended in August when the team's side-scan sonar detected the wreck. This is the first I've heard of this wreck, which is surprising to me for two reasons; first because I've been researching a lot about Lake Ontario shipwrecks for the past 15 years or so, and second because it was relatively recent. We tend to pay more attention to wrecks in which there was loss of life, though.

Note that even today with all of our electronics and radar boats still run into each other in bad weather (some in good weather, but that is usually BWI). |
