I think what we're seeing is the playpen...box floor is out of sight below it. Wonder what they're going to do when the new Tappan Zee bridge is finished? I don't recall if it's staying up or coming down...though it is a few years away...

They're just starting work on the piers now. It's in a slightly different position from the original bridge.

Thruway officials have said the moving process will cost $100,000, an expense they recently tried to cover with money from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund. Last month, the EPA struck down the state's plan to borrow $511 million from the program, including $100,000 for the falcon nest transfer. :scaredblue:
That's important because the box for the endangered species has to be carefully relocated to the new Tappan Zee before the existing bridge is dismantled in 2017.

Hi Bonnie! Have you checked out this location?

It looks like it is about 1/3 to the west on the Tappan Zee just from the video. Can't stop on the bridge, but I can check from Sunset Cove and Kingsland Point Park. It would only be visible by spotting scope from a very long distance. They must hunt in both Tarrytown and Nyack.

The Tappan Zee bridge is being replaced. (http://www.newnybridge.com/index.shtml (http://www.newnybridge.com/index.shtml))
Construction cameras (http://newnybridgegallery.com/webcam.php (http://newnybridgegallery.com/webcam.php)) and the peregrine falcon camera (http://www.newnybridgegallery.com/falconcam.php (http://www.newnybridgegallery.com/falconcam.php)).
Construction is being conducted for the new bridge.
The Tappan Zee is scheduled to be removed once the new bridge is operational. The current nest box is scheduled to be removed during the winter months at that time and a new nest box is incorporated into the new bridge tower.
Both male and female have been at the nest box daily. The female is currently incubating a clutch that began approximately March 24. The public access camera only has digital zoom so images are typically too dark to see the adults sitting very low on the clutch.
From this morning

approximate location of nest box, peregrine falcon camera is on truss mid-point facing north (Right in photograph).
The website is very informative and worth a read. The barges and cranes are currently working on the pilings of the new bridge.

Thank you, Shaky! I was not aware of the crane collapse. Glad there were no serious injuries. I am not sure how far this was from the existing peregrine nest. I saw one of the adults in the nest box early this evening. (http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa393/falcoperegrinus1/July%202016/tappan-zee-july-21-3a_zps8kwyuqrm.jpg) (http://s1195.photobucket.com/user/falcoperegrinus1/media/July%202016/tappan-zee-july-21-3a_zps8kwyuqrm.jpg.html) I have been seeing one of the adults at the nest from time to time throughout June and July. Does anyone know if the chick fledged successfully?
