Title: New at Peregrinations: Owling in Canada Post by: Lord G on 22-Feb-10, 10:21:43 PM Dawn and I took a trip north of the border to look for winter owls last week. We weren't disappointed. I've posted an extensive write-up of our long weekend over at Peregrinations. Read about it and check out dozens of pictures here (http://marchlords.com/birdblog/2010/02/six-owl-weekend-up-north.html).

I go owl-watching and see nothing. I always suspect they play poker on my car roof in my absence, and swoop off just in time. Thanks for sharing the story and photos.

I've been monitoring a local birding email list for possible sightings but so far I haven't heard of any Snowys around Rochester or at the pier. What gorgeous pictures. I loved them all. I really enjoyed the ones of the broken ice looking like broken glass. The two Canada geese and ice, the owls (so wonderful), the foxes, and the ice. Was it cold - - - of course! dumb ? on my part. Lola :congrats: :coolphotos: Title: Re: New at Peregrinations: Owling in Canada Post by: Lord G on 26-Mar-10, 12:17:44 AM Jim and Dawn, What gorgeous pictures. I loved them all. Lola :congrats: :coolphotos: Thanks. Yes, it was frigid on the first day with temps that barely got out of the single digits Fahrenheit, and well below zero in Centigrade degrees. The other two days were a bit warmer, but February is our coldest month... We had people in our group from as far away as Virginia and Florida, so you needn't be local to take a Lakeshore Nature Tour. My first Snowy pictures were in 2004, when we had that Snowy on the Charlotte and Sumerville piers that hung around for a week or so. But my best shots were the ones I got in December 2008 (http://birdblog.marchlords.com/2008/12/out-of-town-visitors-relax-in-rochester.html). For some reason, they don't like to just sit out in the open so we can admire them. 8) Title: Re: New at Peregrinations: Owling in Canada Post by: Lord G on 26-Mar-10, 12:26:00 AM Now THAT is a WOW Weekend!
