http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/falconcam (http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/falconcam) This is Durand (Pigott and Gleig's sister) and Spark..congrats on 2 hatches so far! Title: Re: Columbus OH Falcons 2015 Post by: pawsnclaws17 on 26-Apr-15, 09:33:38 AM Kris - Thanks for posting the link and the family tree. I am still getting used to posting and haven't figured out how to do a lot of things yet. I am not up to date on all the relationships either but it's fascinating to see where they go.
The attached photo is one of the reasons I like to follow this site. I've seen some awesome close up pix of their feathers (and once in a while a close up of the prey - yuck!). Thanks for posting pics because I can't do that from my iPad! In case you didn't know, Pigott was nesting on a building in Brighton for a couple years with DC ((while he was also with Beauty) before she left and settled in Syracuse last year. Gleig nests at Central Terminal in Buffalo and is mate to Diamante..2008 offspring of Mariah and Kaver! I knew that Diamante was in Buffalo but I had no idea that we had a Rochester/Syracuse/Buffalo/Columbus connection. Amazing how they get around. Title: Re: Columbus OH Falcons 2015 Post by: pawsnclaws17 on 29-Apr-15, 07:38:53 AM According to their blog, the 3rd hatch occurred yesterday (see photo). Hopefully their 4th egg will fare better than the one in Harrisburg and we'll have 4 eyases to watch.

Good luck to the 4th egg! :thumbsup:Title: Re: Columbus OH Falcons 2015 Post by: pawsnclaws17 on 03-May-15, 04:50:37 PM I just checked the Columbus site and the 3 eyases are gathered together at the back of the box. The remaining egg is up near the front. I doubt if it will hatch at this point. Not a good year for the 4th eggs so far (Harrisburg lost theirs too). I'm betting our falcons will break the bad luck.
Title: Re: Columbus OH Falcons 2015 Post by: PatriciaRose on 03-May-15, 06:12:06 PM I sure hope so!
Title: Re: Columbus OH Falcons 2015 Post by: pawsnclaws17 on 15-May-15, 07:21:19 AM The Columbus falcons will be banded Monday, May 18th at 10:00 AM. According to their blog this is the last year that they will be banding. Ohio has decided that the population is no longer endangered.

According to their blog this is the last year that they will be banding. Ohio has decided that the population is no longer endangered. I read on C&C's Ohio page that the DOW said although the Peregrine is still protected, they're only going to band at 1 nest site in each district this year and the future of banding is uncertain at this point. Kind of bittersweet.. Title: Re: Columbus OH Falcons 2015 Post by: Penelope99 on 15-May-15, 12:38:26 PM We know the Rochester/Syracuse/Buffalo/Columbus connection BECAUSE they are banded. If they stop to band them that will be impossible for this... :(
Title: Re: Columbus OH Falcons 2015 Post by: pawsnclaws17 on 18-May-15, 06:30:50 PM Banding was this morning. Names are Bolt, Flash and Storm. There are 2 females and 1 male (no word yet on which is the male). Banding video on YouTube shows an interesting use of an umbrella to fend off the adults.

There are 2 females and 1 male (no word yet on which is the male). Banding video on YouTube shows an interesting use of an umbrella to fend off the adults. Bolt is the male, Flash is a good sized female and Strom looks like a small female. Saw pics of all and the umbrella on BCAW..cute! Title: Re: Columbus OH Falcons 2015 Post by: pawsnclaws17 on 04-Jun-15, 01:25:00 PM No flights yet but they do seem to love the camera. One or two are usually directly in front of the ledge cam. They are busy trying to remove the last of their fluff (and getting it stuck in their beaks in the process).
Title: Re: Columbus OH Falcons 2015 Post by: carly on 15-Mar-16, 05:12:03 PM Cams were down for a bit here as well and are backup now and Durand is a week early with egg laying - as are many sites this year. Two eggs in the nest box already!
Title: Re: Columbus OH Falcons 2015 Post by: AlisonL on 21-Mar-16, 11:15:44 AM Cams have been down again for a few days. During the time they were back, they worked only intermittently and the full screen option was gone.
Durand now has her fourth egg (pic from the blog): (http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa393/falcoperegrinus1/February%202016/columbus-mar-21-1a_zpsxit2xgfa.jpg) (http://s1195.photobucket.com/user/falcoperegrinus1/media/February%202016/columbus-mar-21-1a_zpsxit2xgfa.jpg.html) Also from the blog today: Cams Ugh! Continual server problems this season have been quite untimely! The system went down Friday evening so no weekend viewing was available. We are working to get the system rebooted and back up this morning ASAP. Hopefully, later this morning we will see 4 eggs in the nest! |
