Well I went to another window and forgot that I had that cam on, and shortly after 11:30 pm eastern time, I heard a thump. That's when I realized that I still had that cam on. When I went to that window, it turned out that the male had shown up, and he proceeded to mate with the female. So, the countdown to egg laying begins!

Pigeon-1 egg :scaredblue: The Owl was sitting on her eggs in the nestbox this AM calling out maybe for her mate while the Pigeon was standing by her egg looking into the nestbox at the Owl. Strange. Title: Re: Beleef de Lente online Post by: Kris G. on 27-Apr-10, 07:24:06 PM The Stone Owl laid her 4th egg today! Hard to tell how many Pigeon eggs there are in the hallway-she's in front of the camera right now. The 2 of them got into a little scuffle today-it's on the video. Another odd arrangement.

Title: Re: Beleef de Lente online Post by: Kris G. on 28-Apr-10, 12:04:17 PM It doesn't sound good for the Stone Owl today-
sounds like the Pigeon is winning. Google translation: 11:34, Wednesday, April 28, 2010 While we do not know exactly what is in the blind spot, camera in the porch playing, everything indicates that the Pigeon Hole there are now also breeding. The pigeons are now day and night and defended fiercely by wing beat. They prevent the owls entering the vestibule. This means that women no longer from the Little Owl breeding male Little Owl and space can no longer in the hive can be, despite multiple attempts last night and last night. Whether this situation will remain difficult to predict. We understand the anxious reactions he evokes in viewers, and the demand for action. Yet we will not intervene. From the appointment at Experience the Spring that we not intervene in natural processes in front of the webcams play, any intervention in the sense of disturbance of the birds nest (verwijderen eggs or birds prevent their nests enter) a breach by statutory protection rules in the Flora and Fauna. Although the Little Owl is a vulnerable species on the Red List is called, is the legal protection of Owl Rock Pigeon Hole and right. Competition between brothers nest hole is a natural phenomenon that we see a lot of Ć¢ ~ natuurlijkeĆ¢ nesting sites, such as cavities in trees or in barns. That is the law of the jungle. Not always fun to see, but it's part of nature. Title: Re: Beleef de Lente online Post by: Donna on 28-Apr-10, 01:34:59 PM Mom Stone Owl is sitting on her eggs right now and so is the Pigeon. I bet that's not a bad translation -- probably that's exactly what happened. I must dig out a book I got about the Coto Donana in Southern Spain when we were doing some exploring there. I bought it specifically because of its hilarious translation into English. Translation notwithstanding, if anyone ever wants a springtime surge of birding, head straight there... or Majorca... Hmmmm - that has me thinking... We could all shoot down, have a splendid week of birding... and still be back in time for the hatching! Slainte! Title: Re: Beleef de Lente online Post by: Donna on 02-May-10, 12:05:20 AM A quiet day incubation. A few skirmishes with the usual Pigeon Hole, but it seems that the slow owls in control and get the pigeons gradually give ground. Stone Owls that nest in more places with competition have, we saw again today during our field day. And of course there where the owl nest boxes have no interest in, for example because they have found another nice spot under the roof of a barn. And then benefit other birds of beautiful spacious closets owls. So we found a few boxes of Starlings and even great tits! Our experiences and results of the first field day, visit our blog www.athene.web-log.nl. The next week the log provided by Emiel and Joep. (Ronald & Pascal).

Besides earthworms and beetles also mice. Good enough for the female to feed. The dove has been docked her four-night after leaving. I do not know exactly what the impact will be beneficial for the outcome but can not. For this reason, I expect that eventually the effect of the pigeon hole in the porch will be minimal. If the birds have eggs hatching is likely to end up like this guy owl food ...

Moreover, where the Little Owl is a very common species. Back from the dead appear to the problems involving the incubation of SU and HD in the same housing is not over.
