A Maine lobster boat crew has saved an eagle that it spotted struggling in the Atlantic Ocean. John Chipman, of Birch Harbor, said Monday that he came across the wet and weary raptor near Schoodic Island. He says it appeared to be relieved to see the boat and even tried to hop on board last Thursday. Chipman says two retired police officers who were with him brought the bird aboard after fashioning a makeshift raft from a life preserver, a piece of plywood and a rope. Chipman says the bird was missing an eye and appeared to be older. Photos show it resting on the back of the boat. Chipman intended to deliver the eagle to game wardens, but it had other ideas and eventually flew away. http://media.necn.com/images/652*367/Maine+Eagle.jpg (http://media.necn.com/images/652*367/Maine+Eagle.jpg) Title: Re: Maine Lobster Boat Crew Saves Eagle From Ocean Post by: MAK on 01-Aug-17, 11:03:45 AM http://www.necn.com/news/new-england/Maine-Lobster-Boat-Crew-Saves-Eagle-From-Ocean-437843873.html (http://www.necn.com/news/new-england/Maine-Lobster-Boat-Crew-Saves-Eagle-From-Ocean-437843873.html) A Maine lobster boat crew has saved an eagle that it spotted struggling in the Atlantic Ocean. The article I read had some different photos and a short video of the eagle. In the article, sternman Kevin Meaney commented: “I took the cover off the bait tank and tied it on [to the life ring], and made him a little life raft, He got right on it,” Meaney said. “I kind of reached down, patted the top of his head, and told him it would be all right.” And at the end of the article he says: “It was the most incredible thing that ever happened to me,” Meaney said. “To me, that was worth well more than hitting the lottery.” I wish there were a lot more people like John Chipman Jr. and Kevin Meaney. http://outthere.bangordailynews.com/2017/07/31/outdoor-recreation/maine-lobstermen-rescue-eagle-they-found-swimming-in-the-ocean/ (http://outthere.bangordailynews.com/2017/07/31/outdoor-recreation/maine-lobstermen-rescue-eagle-they-found-swimming-in-the-ocean/) Title: Re: Maine Lobster Boat Crew Saves Eagle From Ocean Post by: Dot_Forrester on 05-Aug-17, 09:09:44 AM Lucky eagle!
