Title: Pigeon Rescue Post by: Tokira on 23-Mar-10, 10:12:46 PM My Niece in DC sent me this tonight :-)
"I saved a pigeon this morning. I was riding up the escalator at Rosslyn station and saw a pigeon trying to walk up the metal machinery covering near the down escalator. Of course he couldn't because it's slippery. He didn't seem to be able to fly. I hesitated, thinking "Should I try to rescue the pigeon? Is anybody else going to try to rescue him? Will it be weird?". At the top of the escalator I almost gravitated to the down escalator, and then found myself on it. As I neared the pigeon I still was hesitant. "What will everyone think?" Then I knew it was my last chance and I put out my newspaper and scooped him over toward me so I could try to pick him up. Much to my surprise, he just let me pick him up. I folded him somewhat into the newspaper and continued down the escalator. Nobody said anything at all. Then I just went to the up escalator and rode up. To get out, I went to the station manager, who, when he saw the pigeon, recoiled and asked me if I was going to take him outside, and then let me through the manual gate. I put the pigeon on the sidewalk and hoped he could make it on his own from there. I looked at my hands and they had grease all over them. I hotfooted it to the bathroom at Starbucks and washed my hands like six times. Then after I got my coffee I dropped off my coat to have it dry cleaned. I hope the pigeon will be fine." Title: Re: Pigeon Rescue Post by: valhalla on 24-Mar-10, 05:37:54 AM That's one stop from me at Courthouse - the metro escalators are always being worked on and always greasy. I suspect that the grease was all over the bird, as they do get into the metro system.
