Title: ID band info?
Post by: ezsha on 02-Apr-10, 07:55:48 AM
Is there any way to put ID band info somewhere, maybe on the camera page, to help us uncertain ones ID who we're looking at?  I've searched unproductively to find it, and I think I got Archer and Beauty confused again this morning...
Thanks!

Good idea, but a quick ID tip-Archer's right band is all black, Beauty's is black/green

BAND IDs - Under FILES there is an attachment that lists all of the Rochester falcons band IDs from 2002-2009.  Will be updated when there are changes in 2010.

Ei-Those bands are on their left legs-both A/B have silver bands on the right leg.

I split out this topic and moved it to the Help! board.

How about a group activity? Let's put together the definitive guide for telling Archer and Beauty apart. Then we'll add it to the FAQ board for future reference.

Here are the bands from Joyce's pdf.

What other ways can you tell them apart?

"eagle eye"  Joyce has seen a white spot on Archer.  (Good grief, I am happy to just be able to identify a falcon )

I think that explanation is somewhere on this board

Yes, Archer has one white feather on his right wing seen clearly here...

So this is Archer, I take it, with the white feather on the right wing...

Anyone want to put together a side by side picture of A&B like we had for M&K years ago?

Additional ID comparisons:

  • Archer has white feathers above the cere...a trait handed down from Mariah.
  • Beauty has dark stripes into her salmon breast. Archer's breast is clear white.
  • Archer's moustache is narrower than Beauty's

Funny you should ask...I was searching the archive last night for a pic of them on the new Main Cam in about the same position and posture...found what I was looking for on March 26 & 27...

Cropping them to match up the landmarks took a while, but you can really see the size difference!

For those who want to see the ginormous version

And Carol...thank you for the beautiful, hand crafted oriental rulers...made the match up much easier

Almost. When you you look at Ei's close up of Archer you can see a bit of striping on his breast.

Thanks for the input. I have added this to the FAQ.
