Title: Scottich Osprey webcam link
Post by: Bobbie Ireland on 14-Apr-10, 04:44:38 AM
Here's the link to the Scottish Osprey website... I can hear a woodpecker in the background now - something we rarely see/hear in Ireland...

Three UK osprey cams:
Dodd Wood (http://www.ospreywatch.co.uk/webcam.htm)
Loch Garten (http://www.rspb.org.uk/webcams/birdsofprey/lochgartenvideo.asp)
Glaslyn (http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/northwest/sites/webcams/pages/ospreys.shtml)

Here's a compilation of UK osprey sites (http://www.wildlifeextra.com/go/news/ospreys-2010.html).

And a satellite track log (http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/tracking/lochgartenospreys/index.asp) for two young osprey.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Ezsha - you are way ahead of me. I love the sounds on the site I found... pheasants, woodpecker, coal tit... of course many I do not know... thank goodness for Wood Pigeons!

You know it's all your fault! :harhar:

I didn't know anything about them until I read through the comments on the site you linked, and one mentioned Loch Garten.  When I googled it with web cam, I got the other results, and then noticed there weren't any UK links here...

You sent me on the web quest, and you weren't even trying! :2thumbsup:

FYI, Ezsha - that Loch Garten site has been a flagship for the RSPB for many long years. Thanks to their efforts (at least here), egg thieves have been thwarted and their birds have an almost 24/7 watch - perhaps they do! Would that this were true here in Wicklow, where the reintroduced Red Kites have fallen foul at non-specific poisons. I will see if I can find links for this horrible deed.

Have you lingered on the Scottish Osprey site for any length of time? I LOVE the background sounds!!!

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an add-on that will run on my system, so I can't look or listen in. I'm too new!

But thank you, when I find a working add-on, I will definitely be tuning in!

Oh dear about not getting that site, Ezsha... If I can get something to work, I reckon almost any "eejit" (the Irish pronunciation of "idiot") can - haha! Sure do hope you can find a way... wish I could help!

Flip is for MAC users - you need to go to the Windows update page and download the current Windows Media Player.  Oh, and do this through IE.

I hate it when they do that!!!   :crying: I have Macs (I love my Macs!) - desktop and laptop. The laptop accepts most everything while the older desk one gets cranky when new horizons beckon...

Aha! If Donna is online, North America must be waking up... how DO they do that?! Can't wait to see what you have for us today, Donna! (And yes, that Osprey is some girl, huh?!)

Title: Scottish Osprey - great views now!
Post by: Bobbie Ireland on 19-Apr-10, 10:36:54 AM
If anyone can access the Scottish Osprey camera, it is now in tight on Herself - you can see the feathers and that wonderful head. And... you can see the actual LOGS they haul way up there to make their nests. Amazing! She is having a quiet wee preen too... or, as my niece once said, and as we have said ever since: "Look! She is having a prune!"
