Title: Walk in the woods resumes with a mystery bird
Post by: Dumpsterkitty on 16-May-10, 05:33:06 PM
FINALLY got out to take a walk in the woods again...got out of shape over the winter & needed to work my way back up to it.

Anyway, today's pictures (I'll post some later) are a bit abstract & mostly about capturing the shapes & color contrasts of spring.  But I did catch this guy right before he flew off.  I assumed it was a crow until I just looked at the picture.  My first thought when I did (sorry-he's a little fuzzy from cropping) was grackle.  But I would think the bill should be-not thin, but thinner.  Unless it's just the angle-he was up pretty high & far away.

Any thoughts?

This is the full picture for perspective.

iridescent head, yellow eye, long tail. I'd vote Grackle.
