Title: Shouldnt we have seen a feeding by now?
Post by: Caitie on 18-May-10, 10:19:32 PM
I never really kept close track of feedings in the past or maybe I just forgot over the last two years but should we be seeing Archer come in with some food by now? Its been 7 hours since the first  hatched.

I think others may know more than I, but the eyases have enough stored to last for a day.  Beauty has been eating the leftovers from the hatchings.  She can make it for awhile, too.  Plus that third egg may hatch shortly.  She needs to concentrate on the hatchlings.

Caitie-Bonnie is correct.  Shortly before the eyases hatch they absorb whatever yolk is left into their abdomen to sustain them for the first day.  It can be 24 hours or so before they are fed.

That is, of course, a moot point now since they had their first feeding this morning...
so cute with their tiny little beaks!
