Bobbie Jeff is a friend of Donna's who went to Antarctica last year to build a runway and sent back lots of lovely pictures which Donna Shared with us check it out  http://rfalconcam.com/forum/index.php?topic=621.0  not sure what he is working on this year. But I hope he sends lots of pictures.

I'm so looking forward to Jeff's adventure again this season. 7 months of nothing but fun and great stories, OK and maybe some work. He was stuck in New Zealand for a few days because of bad weather but finally made it. He landed on his own runway he helped build..Pegasus. His C-17 was the first to land on that runway with night vision. Last year when he got there, the temps were 50 to 70 below. This time it was only 20 below, a bit warmer. That's even too cold for me and I love the cold. Hope to start the pics soon.

Can't wait to hear about Jeff's adventures this time around!  I looked forward to his pics last time and this year will be no exception.  I'm so glad he is willing to share his time with us!  Antarctica is MUCH too cold for me! :shiver: :shiver: :shiver:

I always thought it to be one big piece of flat ice. I can't wait for more pics. They have bars and bowling alleys and movies....(who knew)?

Yes I knew it was a continent. But I always pictured a few Quonset huts and a howling blizzard. You know like in the movies where you couldn't see three feet in front of you and there was a monster out there trying to eat you.  :hysterical:

I'm back working @ the Airfield again and loving it!! There r 3 windmills and they are going to try and put 3 more up this year. Sometimes they spin real fast and sometimes slow. I really can't say how fast they spin !!! ;))

Good pix, Donna. And such sapphire-blue skies... it must be so fresh and clean. That penguin (Emperor?) is obviously a member of the crew now. They always seem so confiding.

I HATE snow :tongue2: : BUT . . I LOVE the pictures from Jeff!  Thank you so MUCH for posting those.  I hope all is ok with Momma Seal.  Love all of the pictures!  Can't wait for more! :penguin:  I could NEVER handle being anywhere with snow and cold like that  :scaredblue:  But glad some people can so we can see the pictures and see what it is like there.

Well Jeff's trip this year has been all but exciting, except for the whales. Finally, he captured a few pics of the Emperor Penguins.

My friend Jeff left the Ice yesterday and arrived in New Zealand, (Christchurch) to be exact. He wrote that he was going to Bailies for some green Lip Mussles. This was at 6:33pm. Not long after they had the Quake. Jeff got out safe, (thank God) but the wreckage is devastating.  Well, here's what he said after our concerns.

"If your not here... DON'T COME !!!!! City is devastated!!Water,Power,Sewer all out in downtown. Oldest Church in Christchurch collapsed!! Ground STILL Shaking!!! Airport CLOSED!! Ran out of Bailies for my life only to see Church collapse on car with 2 people in it. Video of the whole Quake while it was happening...What a SAD Event!!! I'm ok!!!!! This SUCKS!!"

Thanks for everyones concern... No baggage,NO passport.. Everything in Hotel. With another building resting on top of it...Don't know if they will EVER let us in to retrieve anything!! This is BAD... VERY BAD !!!!!!!!

Lot of people weren't as lucky as Jeff and my heart goes out to all who's lives were taken. I'm sure he will never be the same.  :(

Oh Donna!!!!!!!!!!!!  These poor people and your poor friend!  I will pray for them

I am so glad to hear that your friend is ok Donna.  Definitely sending thoughts and prayers to those affected by this horrible earthquake.   :(

So glad your friend is OK and I'm also sending thoughts and prayers to all involved.

I haven't seen the news in a couple days and am just finding out about this. Donna what a relief to know your friend is okay. It goes without saying that I'm praying for those poor folks. :pray:

Thanks all, I'm glad Jeff is OK too. His stint on the Ice this year was not so memorable as last year. He was quite bummed....and then this!! He needs to come home, if possible. His Passport and belongings are in his Hotel that is now...well, not quite standing. He said he was able to get some video. I'm sure he will never forget.

A number of local Search and Rescue are enroute to NZ, we have great diplomatic relations with NZ, so Jeff will get home.  He might get to his stuff eventually.  Thank God he's ok, albeit a very changed man.  He'll probably mark time for the rest of his life as before the quake and after the quake (sort of like dawn 9/11 and 9/12/2001).  He might be allowed to help, if he is so inclined and able while he waits for paperwork and transport home.

Now is a good time to contact (don't answer unsolicited e-mails) the American Red Cross - blood and cash (money is always needed is disasters like this).

Thanks for the update and prayers of strength for Jeff and those that are around him.   :pray:

A number of listmates on the Australian Cat Fancier lists have been reporting from there firsthand.  Truly horrifying  :crying:
Another group that shows up to help is the Salvation Army.
That part of the World has really been getting smacked lately  :(

What is the latest news on Jeff?  Did he manage to get his things and get out of New Z?

Yes he did Ruth. He made it home to Oregon no too long after the quake. Thanks for asking and I'm sorry I forgot to post this. He has a lot of sad memories.

Like I said, he will think of things as "before the quake" and "after the quake" - you change, like it or not.

Great news Donna.  Glad Jeff made it home safely.

I was also wondering and am glad he got home OK.
