Title: Malta Hunting protest Post by: Bobbie Ireland on 16-Sep-10, 04:06:17 AM I hope the Moderators won't think this is too political for the Forum, but I feel strongly that Malta deserves all the protests it can get if the twice-yearly slaughter of migrating birds is to cease. The link below may be a bit of a rant (and who could blame the author) but it does include pieces from other bona fide sources such as BirdLife International/Malta and The Times of London. (Both have separate links.)
Importantly, it also includes an address, email and website where readers might voice their objections. I hope many of you will take the opportunity. It is this kind of international protest that has the best chance of succeeding. http://10000birds.com/malta-and-its-hunters-a-stain-on-european-civilisation.htm Title: Re: Malta Hunting protest Post by: Donna on 16-Sep-10, 06:20:02 AM OMG, how awful. 1 officer per 600 hunters, the poor birds don't have a chance. I'll send an email, by golly.
This was on the site also: Will They Start Killing Eagles Now? A Bald Eagle crashed into an Alaska Airlines jet as it roared down the runway in Sitka, Alaska, at 140 mph on Sunday, nearly causing a disaster and forcing the plane to stay on the ground. Then, amazingly, the plane sent to replace the damaged plane ALSO HIT AN EAGLE! We know how New York City reacted to Canada Geese colliding with a plane so one must wonder if Bald Eagles are going to face a cull? Or are they safe because they don’t poop on lawns? Again, apologies for the ranting nature of the earlier link re this topic. It gets the message out there, but I have learned (and to my cost at times) that measured and calm feedback is much more likely to be heard. Still... the contact info in that link is valid and I hope Forum readers will consider making a statement to the relevant authorities.
