Title: Raptor Persecution Scotland Very sad
Post by: Donna on 21-Sep-10, 10:38:17 AM
http://raptorpersecutionscotland.wordpress.com/ (http://raptorpersecutionscotland.wordpress.com/) Blog

The aim of this blog is to monitor the occurrence of illegal raptor persecution incidents across Scotland, and to report on the outcome of each case. As you will already know from reading the blog entries, persecution incidents have been occurring for many years and involve most of our raptor species, including golden eagles, white-tailed eagles, red kites, hen harriers, buzzards, goshawks, sparrowhawks, ospreys, kestrels and owls. Over the coming weeks, I will review each species in turn to see what progress, if any, has been made by our law enforcement bodies. Let’s start with our most iconic species, the golden eagle and white-tailed eagle. (more) with pics Click link above

Talk about the Maltese shooters... looks like Ireland and the UK do not have a great record themselves. The planned articles will certainly outline the reasons, but I think some of this persecution is because this area is still so agrarian, and old habits die hard. Altho illegal, non-selective poisons are common. Aimed largely at foxes, the laced carcases are there for all wildlife to eat. And anyone with a shooting area for the likes of Red Grouse, pheasant etc. reckons that the raptors are their enemies. And then we have the pigeon-lovers... and this after years of education by groups like the RSPB, BTO, BirdWatch Ireland... Big fines! SERIOUSLY BIG FINES!

This is so shocking and heartbreaking...Thank you for bringing this to our attention Donna.
I can't understand such senseless killing of these beautiful creatures.
