Not that I recall hearing about...I don't think I've ever seen the Sheraton cam get wet... It looks OK there now.

Five tornadoes touched down in and around the GTA area and including a location west of where Quest is located...the storm moved her way so hopefully she is in a safe spot. When will we get the next transmission from her?
I have to say I've never seen the severity of storms we had here tonight...unbelievable.

Quest is only one consideration - Lets hope all of our human friends in the Toronto area - Anne? Fred? Has anyone heard from them yet?

Thanks Shaky. I clicked on the blue indicator and it says 'updated yesterday' - meaning the 21st so that means she's safe and sound...
Yesterday I found 17 dead finches where I work all laying under the trees, they must have drowned during the storm..it was a heartbreaking sight and something I've never seen before :crying:

Man! That must have been an ugly storm! I have never seen that either - even after hurricanes (squirrels, but not the birds). Has anyone heard from Anne/Fred or Nicole yet?

Posted over on Yahoo yesterday...
From BigFrank...I just spoke with Mark Nash the Canadian Peregrine Foundation boss (well his wife lets him think so at least) and we have had one badly injured Peregrine which MNR has told us of. We are trying to find out its identity it is black over green c over 51. From what I can ascertain,he could be a bird from Toledo Ohio, from 2007 named Perry from the Commodore Perry Motor Inn.If anyone knows for sure if their birds were black/green let me know. Im abit unclear on that. Our barns where we keep our educational birds at Kortright Centre at the Canadian Peregrine Foundation Raptor Centre,is very near the area that was badly hit by the tornados. Fortunately,Tracy Simpson, our 'Raptor Mom" was there through the whole event. She was well prepared to evacuate the birds, but it was not necessary. All birds were moved to outdoor pens, incase the roof of the indoor area was torn off,our fear was the birds would get sucked up with it. Tracy said the roof "breathed abit" but it held strong,so thankfully all of our birds, the barns and oh ya Tracy are fine.
From me-I did look up the ID and it is Perry from Toledo-
USFWS 2206-72368 Color band b/g C/51 Left Perry m 2007 Hatched Commodore Perry Motor Inn, Toledo Lucas county, OH 05/01/07
And from Nora...Unless Anne C. has posted on the other board, she was fine when we were on the messenger late last night.

Nicole messaged me yesterday AM -didn't say anything about a tornado in Montreal. Kris

I'm sorry that I'm late in posting, after the concern for the residents of Toronto, both human and bird. It's been a long, tiring week and I have got behind. Here is a short tale of our view of the storm:
I just got home from work in time to miss more than some heavy wind. By the time I got up to the 21st floor, it had started pouring rain and the black clouds, at times having a green cast, came over. I'll post a few photos that I took, before the wind and the thunder & lightening backed me off the balcony, into the safety of the apartment! :lurker: Several of the photos are screen dumps from videos I took, so aren't the best quality...but they tell the story. I have two little pigeon squabs growing up out on the balcony and their "roof" flew off, so I went out and covered them up until the storm passed. I was afraid that they would blow away -- so much for believing in the survival of the fittest! In the 5 seconds that took to cover them, I was soaked to the skin! It was all quite something. Lightening hit our building at least once and a good many of the tall buildings downtown. We were lucky that we didn't lose power in our area! And, as the storm slowed off, the sky went the most incredible yellow and then, as it was "sun setting" time, turned an orange and lit the sky strangely. Here are the photos:
As usual, downtown Toronto wasn't as badly hit as the surrounded suburbs and "bedroom" towns. I don't know if it's the moderating influence of the Great Lakes, the tall buildings or all the hot wind from city hall :hysterical:, but often we miss storms altogether! This one we didn't miss, but fortunately, we just had strong winds and no tornados.

Glad you and the feathered ones are ok! :yahoo: I've taken a number of pictures with that strange orange color in it, as we do get tornadoes in this area. Someone told me that it was sulfer in the air (not sure if that is from the clouds or the hell that they come from), but it is not a normal color. Nor are the green/yellow clouds. Thanks for sharing the pics (I saw those buildings from the other side of the lake a few weeks back)! :eyecat:

Anne, your pics are beautiful, (all things considered). Everyone talks about the colors after, the purples and pinks. Mother Nature Paints a pretty picture. The one that looks like the sky is on fire is CRAZY cool. Thanks. Donna

Nice photos...we get a lot of tornadoes through Kentucky (some years more than others), and when we see that green color it's usually our sign that things are about to get bad...

Anne,
Spectacular photos! I'm glad you are OK. The green cast is cause by the presence of lots of hail high in the clouds and is an indication of a powerful storm.

Anne - Thanks for sharing your pictures. I guess you can take a big deep sigh now, and hope we don't have any more of these storms. That last one puts things in perspective again. We've had our fair share in Rochester too, but nothing as ominous looking as your black sky photo.
