Just had the absolute privilege of being eye to eye with a Peregrine. Unfortunately it was in the Vet's practice here in Kilkee where he is treating a rifle bullet wound to it's left shoulder which had become infected and maggoty. Thankfully it seems to be responding to the antibiotics and TLC, is drinking water but won't eat. Any suggestions? This is the third raptor (others Kestrel and Sparrow Hawk) that he has taken in with similar injuries in the last month or so.

just need to put a spy in the local pub. I am sure the donkey hole is bragging to all his mates about how tough he is shooting all the raptors.  :snarl:

That's why I don't keep up on the falcons in the UK anymore, they keep shooting them or stealing their eggs and I would just get upset.  I keep telling myself that global warming will fix those people when the ocean rises and swallows them all up while the falcons laugh from the safety of the skies.    >:D

Carol, it was posted on the fb page under the pic as a caption. It's in Ireland, so I really don't know. From what I understand, they brought it to the attention of the Raptor Conservation Officer.

Donna, I can't seem to find this anywhere in local press etc. Did you say you found it on FB?

And Carly, I understand how you feel! But don't give up on Ireland and the UK, where there are so many people working to save these and other species. The hard work often goes unsung, tho, when we hear about the tragedies... of which there are far too many.

Donna, if it were not for you, I would not have known about this. Shame on some of the local wildlife sites for not mentioning this... or at least I have not found a mention.

That is so very sad.  I'm sure that our local rehabber would have been happy to contact them and help with some advice for the care of this beauty.   :(

Carol, as I told Donna - I have not been able to find out anything about this from local press. I want to get in touch with BirdWatch to see what the situation is, esp re a rehabber, advice etc. I cannot imagine we do not have anyone here with the necessary knowledge and experience. It continues to be a sad situation. I have known circumstances where shooters have had no fear of going out onto rocky clifftops and knocking down old farm walls to get a clear shot. These are not nice people.
