I know I am more lurker here but am wondering if I can ask a favor of these members here?
I live in Northern Indiana and belong to a group that is part of the National HUG Organization.  We make Cooling Ties and Head cooling "caps" for our Troops serving  over seas.  We are the ONLY chapter in Indiana right now and we are small (but MIGHTY) and need the funds to keep our packages going.  We also pack those boxes with LOTS and LOTS of other special goodies for our brave and wonderful guys and gals over there.

If you could help us out I would be so grateful!  We are under the $25,000.00 tab and look for the Cooling ties, Elkhart, IN HUGS group.

OK  Forum Falcon Fans!  It is getting closer to the end of November and our HUGS Project in the Pepsi refresh challenge is up but we still need YOUR daily votes!  We really helped to push the votes for Lexie to get a trike so help me get this HUGS project the much needed help we need to keep the boxes going to our Troops across that large pond.  They NEED to know we haven't forgotten them and that we especially know we are thinking of them with the Holidays creeping up on us!

FYI, Rich and I take our troops and vets very seriously.  3 veterans are at todays NASCAR race at PIR because Rich and I supported Troop Newman (#39 US ARMY Car).  That cost money, this effort costs nothing.  Let's go to the front!

I just don't know how to thank you all for keeping this going! :bow:  :clap:   We have been on the road and trying to get the camper set up and I have a new iphone and voting from there daily BUT not been keeping up with all the other stuff.  Thank you for keeping the reminders going and the new recruitment's!  We REALLY NEED THE HELP!  LIKE YOU SAID TIME IS RUNNING OUT AND WE MUST BE IN THE TOP 10!!   :help:  The number one thing in that $25,000. is teaching hip hop to kids!?  hat that is important cause why?   ???

25,000 to teach Hip Hop, they can't get volunteers  to do that? I don't get it but hey, it is what it is. My first priority every morning is to vote for causes, if there are any, do my sweepstakes, yes, I have a few and then forum. I hope they can get in the top ten soon. Would be nice for the troops to win. Keep plugging away.

Gee, I wish someone had taught me Hip-Hop when I was growing up in the inner city so I would have a such a valuable skill as an adult. Those worthless math, science, and written language skills I was taught have really hindered me.  :rolleyes:

And why does anyone need $50K to stop healthy animals from being fed antibiotics? Simply raise the price of antibiotics and use the surplus money to educate people on the effects of giving antibiotics to healthy animals. The higher cost alone will force farmers to stop doing it. They will only be able to afford enough of antibiotics to give to the sick animals that really need them.

Today I received a call back from a Pepsi Representative
after I asked last week to be connected to someone in the General Counsel’s
Office.  Although the call back was not
from the General Counsel’s Office, I believe my 20 Minute conversation was with
someone who had supervisory responsibilities. 
While at first I was politely given a pitch about how Pepsi would not give
the full $250,000 to any recipient in one lump sum, and that Pepsi would
monitor the grant to make sure it was used for its intended purpose.    At that point in time, I made reference to
the IRS Tax Fraud Case File Number; the excessive lobbying  activities of
the  HSUS; the potentially missing
$500 Million from  the  HSUS Tax Returns  for the Years 2005-2009; the potential
laundering of  money;  and the RICO lawsuit filed  by the Parent Company of Ringling Brothers.  I further mentioned several examples of how
the PEPSI “Due Diligence” review of the HSUS may have failed to detect the well
masqueraded acts of deception. At that point, Terri became very receptive to my
suggestion that I E-Mail a copy of the Background Paper entitled the HSUS
“Lobbygate” Cover-Up, which I did.
Fifteen minute later, I received a “Thank You” acknowledgement from
Terri.
 While this is no assurance that
the Background Paper will make a difference, it could become an Uncle Remus
“Tar Baby” that may give some at Pepsi a pause that will not refresh!

is a summary of how the Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) has misused several
Hundreds of Millions of Dollars of donations that it has received on
excessive and prohibited lobbying, as well as an insight on how it launders
money through its "family" of affiliated organizations in
order to mask the magnitude of its lobbying activities.

With
respect to the use of the word "laundering," your outside
due diligence auditing firm may wish to review the lawsuit that was filed
in the District Court of the District of Columbia on February 16, 2010 by the Feld Corporation, the Parent
Company of Ringling Brothers Circus.  (Civil Action No.1:07-01532-EGS).
Here it is significant to note that not only is the HSUS named as a defendant
in this case, but that the allegations include references to a violation of the
RICO Statute (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act - - 18
U.S.C. 1961) because of alleged “money laundering” by senior employees of
the HSUS. Included within this lawsuit are allegations that the “HSUS’s
participation in the illegal, improper and fraudulent payment
scheme,” included specific references to Bribery, Illegal
Witness  Payments, Obstruction of  Justice, Mail Fraud, Wire
Fraud, Money Laundering, Conspiracy to Harm a Business, Malicious Prosecution
,  and Abuse of Process.

The Tax Fraud Case File Number is 29-92012.  The Office
of the Inspector General for Tax Administration in the Department of the
Treasury has also assigned a Case File Number (55-1005-0025-C).



Once upon a time there was a major auditing firm that did not catch the
irregularities that doomed Enron.   And once upon another time, no
auditing firm was quick to recognize the Ponzi-like scheme that was
masterminded by Bernie Madoff.  "Lessons Learned" from those two
episodes would suggest that when a RED FLAG is waved, there may be some BULL
behind it! 

I have copies of the more than 1,400 pages of documents that
were submitted to the IRS in the event your due diligence auditing firm
would be interested in reviewing them."

Bottom line:  H$U$ is about to get $250K more with which to fight the "Animal Rights" agenda, at the expense of Animal WELFARE :-(

Pretty sad huh Carol? I knew you would not like this one. I can think of better and more needy ways of spending 250K. Yes, animals count but it needs to be legit. Thanks for all your input on HSUS.

Each and every one of us should be taking food, towels, bleach, kitty litter, cat and dog toys, etc., and whatever $ we can spare, to OUR LOCAL NO-KILL Shelters!  We all love animals, let's REALLY help them!

I do here, help my local shelter with food, toys, and donations. They helped me spay my outdoor cats for a minimal fee. NO more kittens, although I loved each and every one of the 40+ kittens I had over the years but enough is enough. I now only have 2 females and 2 new males have come along terrorizing my birds at my feeders. They already caught a Dove and my heart sank. They are young males, maybe 6 to 7 months old. I only put suet out now, no seed and I feel bad for not doing so. I could call animal control to try and trap the males but they are so over crowded right now, I'm actually afraid to call and bother them. So what to do.  :(

Thanks NYC, it's not the $$ it's the over-crowding at the pound right now. I will call and see what they say. I know Al is always on the road trapping feral cats. If they could come and trap them, neuter and release, it'll all be god. Thanks, your too kind. They could even be adopted as they seem friendly. They are just afraid of me as I'm always opening my window that faces the feeder and going.."pssst" and they run.

I am looking into Feral Stat http://www.feralstat.com/ (http://www.feralstat.com/) for my outside guys.  The senior mom seems to have retired, as she had no kittens this year, but her daughter has picked up the cause...  I can't afford to catch and neuter them either, but I think the Feral Stat will help.  They are friendly, and the littles I've caught have been VERY sweet.

Feral Stat helped me with my Little Momma who had way too many litters. Unfortunately, she died this past Summer. Can you get some now Carol? I know you had problems last year finding it.

Rally the "troops"!  Only 3 days left and we are back down to #4!  NEED TO KEEP THE VOTES COMING EVERY DAY!!  I know you faithfuls are doing just that and I thank you  :notworthy:  :clap: from the bottom of my heart!  I just read an email with thank you's in there from Troops who are receiving packages from the BIG main division in OK.  Karen Stark is the founder and she has been so impressed with our little group in Elkhart.  There are Soldiers over there with next to no family or some with family that just can't afford to send things their way!  This project helps lift their spirits up and they find out there are people out there (strangers to them) who care and are thinking of them and praying for their safe return!  Warms a persons heart to know there are people out there like these HUGS people!  I feel honored to know some of them and that the FOUNDER even emails me!   :bow:  She and her hubby Ray are HUGE supporters of all our Military and as the Mom of a Sailor it warms my heart to know people out there appreciate what he has to sacrifice.

I am voting with the rest, Annie - but once this "challenge" is over, what else can we do? I would be more than happy to go on a list of people who will send packages, write letters etc. Not sure how to do that, tho, as one obviously wants to go through a bone fide organisation. You mention people who have no one to send such things, which makes me cry! So if there is something you could suggest, I'm in! (Hope they don't mind things coming from Ireland...)

What a ride these last few months have been!  As of 12:01 this morning, 1/1/11, the ELKHART HUGS PROJECT was a "finalist" in the PEPSI Refresh Everything contest.  What does this mean?  As far as we know.......WE WON!!!  :)  :)  :)
 
In the next few days (due to the holidays), Pepsi will send me a message officially stating that HUGS is a "finalist" (finished in the TOP TEN).....we must then submit necessary paperwork which will then be reviewed, confirmed and then we will officially be announced as a "grant recipient" for December.  YAHOO!!!!!
 
I cannot find words to say all my heart feels....you have been amazing.  You stuck with us and survived my daily barrage into your email box.  You took time (sometimes hours) to vote and leave comments.  You helped us make "Pepsi friends" who brought us votes. You told your friends and even complete strangers about our cause.  Some of you learned how to text for the first time.  Many of you now know what "FB" stands for and have your own account!  (Facebook)  Some of you voted in a ROCC church service or at a high school basketball game.  Some of you withheld Thanksgiving and Christmas meals until family members had voted!  :)  :)  But ALL OF YOU HELPED MAKE A DIFFERENCE - AND THAT DIFFERENCE WILL NOW SUPPORT AMERICA'S FINEST OVERSEAS, FIGHTING FOR EACH OF US - OUR U.S. TROOPS!
