Title: Search for Rumba Post by: huddiecat on 08-Nov-10, 02:36:14 PM This past Saturday Don and I went to Montezuma sure we would find Rumba and get some pics of him. We arrived about 9:30 and saw a juvenile peregrine sitting on a mudflat in the new shorebird habitat on the wildlife drive. We were so excited! We drove closer, thinking it had to be Rumba, but noticed there were no leg bands on the bird. She took off after being spooked by a van and did not return. We decided it was a female because she was fairly large, too large to be a male.

Notice she kept an eye on us the whole time. http://tinyurl.com/2al6k7j We returned to the shorebird habitat later in the day and spent several hours looking for Rumba and the female juvenile. We did not see either one, but did see an adult peregrine at Benning Marsh! I spotted something in a tree near Benning and just as I put my binos up to take a closer look, I noticed the falcon fly out. She flew over the main pool and up, then came down in an awesome stoop on the teals and other waterfowl drifting in the water. She then flew off to the river and we lost sight of her. Again, we decided it was a female as it was pretty good size and I had great looks when she flew over the car.
