Now, an elementary class at a La Crosse charter school is giving millions of people a front row seat to the daily activities of bald eagles. Third and Fourth graders at the Blair-Taylor SoSET Charter school have been studying eagles in preparation for a large scale Internet project called Eagles 4 Kids. Last Wednesday, students in Mr. Lawerence's class launched a website that includes a live webcam that's been mounted four feet above an Eagle's nest in Ettrick. The students played a role in this too. This video camera is the closest to an eagle's nest in the entire nation. "We've got a bird's eye view looking directly down at this nest," said Mr. Lawrence. "Come February is when they're going to lay their eggs and there's an incubation period of about 35 days. So, come March we should hopefully see some eaglets in the nest." Community partners have played a big role in making this project possible. The National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota is one of them. The Technology Manager at the Eagle Center helped Mr. Lawrence's class create the website and will make sure everyone is able to view the eagles. The webcam will be up and running Monday. http://www.wsaw.com/education/headlines/La_Crosse_Students_Give_World_a_Birds_Eye_View_of_Bald_Eagles_110969069.html (http://www.wsaw.com/education/headlines/La_Crosse_Students_Give_World_a_Birds_Eye_View_of_Bald_Eagles_110969069.html) video |
