Title: Visitor to our backyard today!
Post by: Kris G. on 14-Jan-11, 04:05:32 PM
We have had a Cooper's Hawk visiting our backyard feeder area the past few weeks and finally today I was able to get some pics!  Enjoy!

Unbelievable! Great shots.

Thanks, Ei and Donna!  I took it from the kitchen window thru the screen! It was looking for some lunch which was hiding in the hedge but took off after flying thru the hedge with no catch.  Last week it did get one of our Mourning Doves though.

Thanks, Carol! It was a pleasant surprise although not so pleasant for my little birdies who were hiding in the hedge!

OK, what's with the Coops?
Have had one in back yard the last 3-4 days raiding the feeders.
Never gets the crows or pigeons just doves and almost got a Cardinal.

Wonderful photos, Kris!!  You did an outstanding job capturing the real life image!  The wait was worth the outcome!  Yes, I can certainly understand the negative feelings around larger predators munching on the wee song birds, but, it is called survival of the fittest and it is called a bird feeder...  Thanks so much for sharing your photos with us!

Best wishes,
Anne in Toronto

Thanks, Anne!  It was here again today but saw me in the window trying to get a picture and flew off over the field toward the creek. A beautiful Coop!
