Title: oystercatcher´s nest Post by: Mirta on 09-Oct-09, 09:12:55 PM Two days ago, during my work at the beach, I could find and take picures of this american oystercatcher at its nest. I was with a friend who took me a picture while I was trying to bring near without disturbing it. :secret2:
I was waiting there for 30 minutes, when it decided to fly, so we could see its 2 eggs. I know they breed in No. America, so I did not understand how they could be breeding in So. America too. So I did a little research and discovered that there are five races of Am. Oystercatcher in N.A., C.A. and S.A. One is on the east coast of N.A., one on the west coast of N.A. and the other three in Central and South America.

But they are theatened by people walking, on ATV (even they are prohibited in these beaches) and dogs. Last Saturday I went again to see the nest, found another one with 3 eggs, but being a 3 days weekend, a lot of people were walking or driving disturbing the birds. You can see a man with his son driving very close of one oystercatcher in the picture I´m copying.
