Title: What are these bugs?
Post by: Kris G. on 27-Aug-11, 08:18:24 PM
We have a table umbrella that every time this year, when we've opened it up, we find these bugs and lots of grass in the folds of it.  They appear dead and we dispose of them but even the next day, there they are again!  Anybody have an idea of what they are?

Really weird, Donna!  We've never had them before but they've been there almost everyday.  If we get rid of them, the next day there's either clumps of grass in the folds or lots of these.  They're always the same size too-never any little baby ones and they never move.  We don't see what's putting the grass in the folds either to see if that might give us a clue as to what they are. We just know when we roll the umbrella open, these things and grass are all over it!

That is a mystery Kris.  I have no idea what these bugs are.  Is there anything above the umbrella, like a tree or the roof of the house?  Could they be falling down from something onto the umbrella?

There aren't any trees near it-just our shed which sits lower than the pool deck.  It's an above-ground pool with a deck and that's where the table and umbrella sit.  The weirdest thing is that they're all concealed in the folds of the umbrella which we loosely tie closed at the bottom when not in use.  These things can appear overnight-large clumps of brown straw-like grass with these things all embedded in the grass.  They're always there no matter how many we get rid of each day.  We've just never had these before.
