Title: An evening with an Osprey family
Post by: MAK on 29-Aug-11, 10:37:58 PM
Joycie and I went to visit with the Osprey out in Hilton tonight. I must say they are a chatty bunch!  ;D
Anyway here's my album and there's no need to sign in!

MAK - answering your text here - Osprey are talkers.  If you spend enough time with them you recognize the hunger, potty, alarm, and "look at me" calls.  As for the rest, I think that they talk simply because they Can and they Do.  Is it part of bonding?  Sure!  BUT they talk/sing and sing.  I also think (pure speculation) that because fishing is so good on the Bay that they "converse" with the neighbors, too - just saying "hey".

Hey!  That singing and chatting is one of the reasons I love them so much - they often sound like overgrown songbirds!

When we winter in Bonita Springs, FL there is a pair we see when we go fishing and they ARE so vocal!  It makes my day when I can sit and listen and watch them.  To heck with the fishing!  Just makes my day!

Because it is winter, this probably is NOT the nesting pair (no pair bonding) - they are just doing their Osprey Thing!
