If you spend enough time with them you recognize the hunger, potty, alarm, and "look at me" calls. As for the rest, I think that they talk simply because they Can and they Do. Is it part of bonding? Sure! BUT they talk/sing and sing. I also think (pure speculation) that because fishing is so good on the Bay that they "converse" with the neighbors, too - just saying "hey".
