Title: Zuzu is back and... Post by: Paul Hamilton on 06-Dec-11, 08:37:27 PM The last time we saw Zuzu, our flying squirrel, was nearly four months ago, on August 28, right before Hurricane Irene. Had she died? Did the loss of two trees make our back yard too exposed for a flying squirrel to feel safe?
We were delighted to see her again last night. However, the biggest surprise was tonight, just an hour ago, as we were eating dinner. It appears she has friends. Zuzu is the small one in the middle. They all look the same to me! :confused: Paul your pic of Zuzu and company reminded me of a squirrel I saw the other day running up the street toward me. I thought it was a rat at first but when it decided to stop on the sidewalk in front of my house I could clearly see that it was a squirrel. Any ideas what could be wrong with it anyone?

My second guess would be he was caught by a hawk or something and managed to escape. Time will tell if he'll survive, but I've seen some pretty badly injured squirrels do just fine. We don't know the age, ender, or anything else personal, but Cha Cha has distinct behavior, climbing right into the seed cake holder from the top.
Janet -- these new squirrels might be family members.
