Snowy owls are arriving in the Chicago area in far greater numbers than usual this winter, but the dramatic presence of a bird made famous in the Harry Potter movies has nothing to do with magic and everything to do with finding a good meal.

did it. he's still around, still spending the day in Montrose Harbor, surrounded by ducks and grebes and gulls, rotating that hemisphere of a head. I saw Jerry Goldner (do check out Donna's link two posts down) there, he's just raking in shots of this guy.

Wonderful pictures of the Snowies, Dale.
They are! When I was down at Montrose Harbor snowy-watching today I met the man who's taking them and "met" (albeit at a distance and with profound indifference on the part of the beast) the subject itself. What a huge white one.
