I want to start this report by saying that my thoughts and prayers go out to Beauty.- Heal quickly and be well little one.
I got a late start this morning.- My first check was at Kodak Park to see if I could find Unity.- It was very cold and snowy.-...

Thanks so  much Carol and thanks to Joyce, Mak, Dana and Brian for watching today-- in this snow and cold especially

Healing thoughts go out to Beauty.  Thank you, Carol, and other Falcon watchers for going out in this -- probably the coldest, snowiest day we have had all this mild winter.

Your dedication allows us to witness the beauty and sometimes the harshness of these wonderful falcons and their lives.

Keeping Beauty in my thoughts,  I do thank you all.

Exactly what Margaret just said... Thank you, all - and good luck, Beauty! Very anxious indeed to hear how things are today.

Bobbie it's snowing very hard here today so I doubt if anyone will be going out for a watch. We got about 5 inches overnite and we expect at least that much more today.  :snow2: :natale3:

Thanks, MAK! Looks like a bad day there, so better for everyone to stay toasty and not venture out - we do not need further mishaps!

Hi everyone! I went through yesterdays pics of our snowflake watch with the female pefa eating downtown.  I wish I could give you some clear shots with a positive ID, but the weather didn't cooperate.

I am posting 2 photos of the pefa taking off with her prey after she ate. Also a comparison shot of Unity on May 8, 2011 in almost the same position with the female we observed yesterday.

Pictures are on Picasa and you can download to play with if you want.  As Carol indicated...we are starting to believe it is Unity.  I can see similar comparisons in the malar stripe (mustache) and also a colored band on the right leg.

We'll just have to wait for a more positive ID, but I feel it is Unity.

Oh my that the interloper could be Unity - is that what you are thinking?

What did I miss? I saw the original post that Beauty had been injured but have not seen anything about the extent of her injuries, how it may have happened, where she was found, or where she is now. Judging from the well-wishes being sent in, I assume she is still alive??

Dot, we haven't gotten an update on Beauty.  Hard when it is the weekend.

I would not be surprised if it is Unity.  She and Beauty had a go around at Kodak before.

Dot, Beauty was found on the ground Friday on Clinton Ave. near Xerox. We are not sure of any details other than she is alive and with a rehabber this weekend. We do believe there was a territorial battle most likely with the female falcon we observed yesterday. And we are pretty sure that falcon is Unity.

I had initially thought that Unity was the falcon you had taken pictures of
earlier, but the band color was said to be red and even after Maximizing the pic
I thought it was more on the purplish side than red, that just, maybe it was
Unity. Was the male seen flying around with the female the other day banded?
Maybe our Mr. T if unbanded? Could Archer be back if banded? The possibilities
just seem to get more interesting. . . If Beauty did heal well would she be set
free outside of Rochester like Mariah? It almost seems like it would be better
if she had another chance elsewhere, as much as we'd all miss her at her
favorite roosts. . . So much to ponder. . .

I think no matter where they released her, she would come home just like Mariah did. I almost wish she wasn't releasable. I can't bear another battle!  :(  Sorry!

It's a mixed blessing.  If Beauty is released, she will come back.  This falcon, presumably Unity, seems to hang out downtown rather than at the nestbox but she is where Beauty seems to roost so that explains the battle downtown.  I hate these battles.  This doesn't seem to happen as much in Toronto where there are many nests close together but our falcons do battle.  Hate it.

Also, whereas Kaver would have protected Mariah, Archer is with both Unity and Beauty so if/when he comes back, it's questionable who he would protect.  I really wish Unity would come out to the Brighton campus but that might even be too close.  That is where Beauty was originally and she moved into downtown and got into the dispute with Mariah.
