Peregrine Falcon in Zwolle, it's a webcam picture of yesterday. And a webcam picture of today, with even more snow. This peregrine never  spend the night in the nestbox.

Hi Aafke,
I have never seen a magpie with a black-beak before.  I live in the Sacramento Valley (and the San Joaquin Valley) where all we have are yellow-billed magpies.  They are a beautiful bird with their irridescent (sp?) black color.

    :mini-bird:
not quite a magpie

Hi, Lola!  I live just over the hill from you, in Reno, Nevada, and all we have up here are black-billed magpies.  There are several who hang around outside my office.  It wasn't until I went to the Flyway Festival in Vallejo, and took a tour of a rehab facility at Fairfield that I ever saw your yellow-billed magpies.  Such a short distance, and such a big difference!!

Hi Debbie,
That is surprising about the black-billed magpie.  I go to Reno a couple of times a year and I don't believe that I ever saw one.  I have seen yellow-billed magpies at South Shore at Lake Tahoe.  It is odd that the yellow-billed have never breached the crest of the Sierra.
Lola

This is my second time answering your note.  I don't know what happened to the first one.  I pushed a button and it disappeared.  :crying: I am sure it will show up somewhere.

Hi Lola and Debbie,

Would you believe the only place in the world where you can find yellow-billed magpies is where Lola lives?  Yep...it's true!

Hi Judi,
Thanks for  the confirmation on the yellow-billed magpie and its living area.  I have always felt special to have a bird that is only common in the Sacramento area.  I rarely get to see a rare bird and to discover that the y-b magpie is unique to our area.  Sometimes it is hard to believe when they are in the trees by the tens of them and they are all telling their story at once.  Kind of like crows.

Ready for eggs?
The bird was laying down for a long time, it's possible that when there are eggs we cannot see them.

Donna, don't you worry, the Egyptian goose is such an easy bird, They are brooding everywhere. I'm sure they are brooding on a nice piece of grass, close to the water.
It would be nice for us to see the goslings  jumping down again, maybe next year.
greetings Aafke

No rent lost in that nest! A couple leave another move in!! Wonder if the falcons waited until the Goose family left? Let's see if we have falcon eggs here and if this is the same pair that have occupied this nest in the past! Amazing how life works! Thanks Carla.

Back in Flevo! Same day the falcon was there

So was the Goose a minute later.

They think the E Goose has been harassing the falcons, when the falcons won, they had 1 egg. Then, they think a new female came and all went downhill, that's why only 1 egg that was laid in April is still there!
