A very exciting and scary evening Falcon Watch.- I really hate battles between the Peregrines, but tonight's battle was more tense than normal ones, which are very tense!- Tonight a 3rd Peregrine came...

I'm not understanding DC's position here. Beauty & Orion battle intruding female and he sits and does nothing? He's not with Orion during the morning watch while MAK is there. Orion hunts with Beauty, talon tags with Beauty. What exactly is DC's role here? I've never heard of such a thing. Don't get me wrong here, I really like DC but I don't think he knows what his role is yet. If he's suppose to be watching the air space, he failed tonight letting his son take that role. It's said that males don't go after females that come into their territory but he had no problem going after Beauty. Hmmm. Help me out here guys!  ???

An interesting question given the fact that he went after Beauty with such ferocity earlier in the season?   Maybe so much more that we don't understand.  Orion and Beauty do seem to have a special bond, and DC does appear to stay in the back ground...hmmmm....good questions.

Not to mention that Archer along with Beauty went after Mariah.  Very weird and tense tonight.  We've just never seen a territorial battle that included a juvie.  Thankfully, Orion, Beauty and the intruder were ok.  There was contact and it was fast. Beauty was off like a flash when she spotted the intruder near Orion.

Perhaps an indication that is was indeed Pigott then who came into the territory.  He is bonded to both females now so how can he possibly choose between them?  In the beginning he was bonded with P and not with B so he had no issue trying to oust her, then along came Orion and now he's bonded to both females.

His father Jack is the same way, he seems content to let the females do all the defending unless it's another tiercel then he's all over it.  Even at banding, he screams a lot in the background and then takes off to his other site while mom is left to defend the kids and the site.  I remember the first time he did that, I was yelling at him as he was flying off to TR Mom leaving Angel to defend on her own

We aren't sure why that is - perhaps because he has two sites - it's a form of self preservation?  If he is injured then he'd have two females and two sets of offspring left without someone to protect and feed them?  Or if one of his mates is defeated, it's a way of being accepted by the new female so he can still be there to help his offspring, after all if he helps the new female might drive him out of the territory as well?

We really dont' know, this entire 'bigamous' thing has been a learning experience for all of us.  All we can do is document it as there is so little information out there about it - we really don't have much to compare it to.  But I do understand your confusion, believe me..been there, cursed the bird many times and scratched my head a lot as well.

Carly, YES, it is very confusing. I wish I could figure him out too! Next year should be a hum-dinger, especially if he's still with both and both have multiple eggs. I shudder to think. He will be  :silly:

Been trying to piece together yesterday's happenings, little by little. I think I get what happened, but if someone could put the whole sequence on the Blog, it would be great. (Of course they have nothing else to do!) Carly, your contribution was fascinating to read... and there is still so much to learn - which is why our Faithful Watchers are doing such wonderful work with their observations.

Thanks for your insight Carly-it helps having someone around who's been there before.

I will only add that I think Orion was mimicking Beauty, but after watching the video I'd say he did a pretty good job.

Thank you watchers for being there.

may this be the beginning of the legend that is Orion  :notworthy:

PS I am glad he knocked his dad off when he went back to TSB

I have always wondered about DC's connection to Beauty. I had hoped with their bowing in the nest box that he had come around. What Carly said makes sense. But don't I correctly remember Kaver helping Mariah and vise-versa
