Title: Prayers needed for my little Ozzie
Post by: Caitie on 06-Dec-09, 05:12:01 PM
2 months ago my little Ozzie, my single female lovebird, started to fall out of her happy hut in the night. We took her right into a board certified avian vet and after blood tests and an xray he said she was very sick with multiple bacteria, fungus and a growth in her abdomen. He gave us antibiotic to give her and an anti fungi but we could see it didn't help her for very long. He didn't give us much hope. We don't know how she got so sick because we are very careful, clean and even give them all bottled water. Her favorite treats are just peas and avi cakes. She could only talk enough to say her name but she twirled on her bong as I clapped and said yeaaaa! The vet suggested against surgery saying she probably wouldn't survive. Today shes lying on the bottom of her cage and her eyes are open very little and dying. Ive had her for 7 years and we love her very much. This is so hard to watch but there is nothing we can do but keep her comfortable and warm. I also tried giving her water with a dropper on the outside of her beak but shes very weak. Just say a prayer that she flys with the others soon we've lost in our avian family. I believe the lion lays with the lamb in heaven so I'm sure they won't hurt her. I'll miss her so much. :crying: Here's her picture.

Catie, I am so so sorry. I lost a Cockatiel to the same thing. New Year's Eve 4 years ago. Taco kept falling off his perch and just stayed on the bottom....laying next to the light bulb we put next to his cage. He barely was breathing. It was the God awfulist New Years. Right after midnight, he took his last breath. I feel for you and Ozzie. My prayers are definitely with you. It's not easy with any animal. Sorry.

Caitie,
I'm so sorry that Ozzie is so ill. She is a beautiful Black Masked Lovebird. I had two Peach Faced Lovebirds named Rocky and Rambo. They ended up both being female.
My thoughts are with you and Ozzie.

Ozzie just went to heaven. :crying: Hubby and I are just so broken up over her. She wasn't even hand tamed but she was such a character and the last year she let me pet her head and handle her more.. She also loved to bop to music in sync with us bopping. Came to me for kiss kiss and loved her popsicle sticks she'd carry around and shred. Her companion is Whitey our parakeet. He treated her like his mate. He'll be so sad without her. He knows her name so Im sure he'll be calling her now and I'll :crying:

God Bless you all... my dearest friend said she will let me bury her in her yard where she has a little pet cemetary and I can always visit her. We only have a condo so I was worried where I could put her. Your thoughts and prayers are all so appreciated. We get very attached to our lil fur and feathered babies don't we? They are all family to us... You know I saw she was suffering the last 15 minutes of her life so I took her off the towel I had her resting on and put her back in her favorite place, her happy hut on the floor of the cage, and prayed God would take her and he did minutes later. If God watches over the sparrow, then surely the lovebird. It was so caring of you to put her in the place that she loved so much.

Hubby and I are overwhelmed with gratitude for the beautiful sentiments expressed here for our little feathered baby and we are truly Blessed to have such caring cyber friends. :rose: Tonight we buried Ozzie :crying: in my friends lovely backyard. She shares a place with 2 Guinea pigs and a rabbit. We placed her in a box inside her happy hut. We added her favorite ring swing pictured here below (with the shells and different colors) and a handful of Popsicle sticks which were her favorite toy to shred. I used to buy a craft case of them for her to go through. It was better then her working on my woodwork lol She was a stinker and so filled with personality. Before I knew she was a she, (she laid eggs one year)I always said Ozzie had the personality of a little Jimmy Cagney. The way she would proudly strut across the floor with her Popsicle sticks just daring little Whitey to take it, which sometimes he did. She wasn' t afraid of anything! as I learned one day when I accidently placed my huge Eclectus in the birdsroom before placing Ozzie back in her cage. She zeroed in on this familiar but unsuspecting intruder 10X her size and I came running as I heard a loud screeeech!!! :o only to find this tiny lovebird clinging to the back of poor Baley's neck ready to fight for her territory against this huge monster bird!! Baley was none the worse and without a scratch. But Ozzie made her point. She definately was the alpha bird in our home. But even with that you had to love her. She was so spunky and at the same time so tolerant of her friend Whitey the parakeet who stayed by her side for 5 years.
Well that's all I have to say about that as Forrest Gump would say...
That was just our little Ozzie
:rainbow: THANK YOU ALL :rainbow:
Walter and Janie :heartspin:

I am so taken by how adorable Ozzie was! I'm so glad you could bury her in a serene, special place. Sweet baby. It is just so hard to go through this.
