Title: A few Owl videos Ive put together lately.
Post by: BIGFRANK on 06-Dec-09, 09:04:47 PM
The first is a video of Great Horned Owls calling...crank your sound up and listen. I also disscet 2 owl pellets on it. http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=21m6ky0&s=6
The 2nd video is of an Eastern Screech Owl calling. We had 2 pairs in/around the park. This past summer one pair returned with an Owlet.
My buddy Murray took this of the Owlet.

Thanks for the videos Big Frank.  I found the contents of the pellets interesting.

I accompanied a couple of watchers this weekend to look for evidence of snowy owls that have come south from Canada.  This was my first experience seeing lots of bones and several pellets. I have no idea what bones are what.  I was told some were duck vertebrae, but there were large bones too.  May have found a part of a skull, but not sure...So much to learn!

Thanks for the welcomes. As many of you know I was a member of your other board, and do alot of volunteer work with The Canadian Peregrine Foundation, from helping display our educational birds at various shows, fledge watches and even a hack/release. In 2004 I started a fall migration Raptor Watch. You can see the daily results, some great photos and a  few videos of what we have seen the last few years at http://raptorwatch.blogspot.com/ . This season of special interest to rfalcon forum users,we had a record number of Peregrien Falcons pass our site. We saw 73 Peregrine Falcons.
Joyce and any one else who may have pellet content photos,I have access to a small vertabrates expert, who has previously done work with the Royal Ontario Museum,so if you have any photos of the pellet contents feel free to post or send them to me. A description of the size(lengths) or what kind of owl the pellets may be from.
I hope I can be of help with reguards to any and all birds, particularily birds of prey.
I have a ton of photos..birds and non at
