A BIRD fancier from Galashiels is continuing to cause a flap in the world of pigeon racing.

Kieran Jamieson-McDermott, of Magdala Terrace, was believed to be one of the youngest ever to try his hand at the sport in Scotland last year aged 11.

He overtook his 51-year-old dad, Eggy, as the youngest member of the Galashiels and District Homing Club.

And now, this year, the Galashiels Academy pupil has been awarded a special prize by Scottish National Flying Club for becoming the first member under 18-years-of-age flying on their own.

His proud mum, Angela said: "Kieran has continued to do quite well in the Club and Federation this Season, and was delighted when he won the trophy at national level.

"He had a great night out at the national dinner and dance where he received lots of praise from many successful and experienced pigeon men.

"Another high point was winning a club race but the lowest point was when he witnessed a Peregrine Falcon snatch one of his birds about 50 feet from home."  OOPS!
