Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Donna on 29-Oct-12, 01:23:30 PM  I'm OK, thanks for asking. I've been tie-ing up some loose ends around here and helping the elderly neighbors across the street. Some winds and rain right now. At 4 pm, ask me again, I'll be up against the wall screaming!! Ed had to go to work and will be there for the next 30 some hours, not fair! It's the night that bothers me! I'll check in from time to time! Be safe all, I'm trying!

Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Donna on 29-Oct-12, 06:15:02 PM Power out just above us, not even a mile up the road. Hope it's not contagious! Porch cats still have no clue where to go! Feel bad for them. I made houses but they don't want to be on the porch, they like it under. :crying: Thanks all, I'll keep you posted, the worse is yet to come.
Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: margaret on 29-Oct-12, 06:40:00 PM Be well, Donna. At times like this I think of those of you living in NJ and lower NY - especially my family on Long Island, NY. This is a scary storm.
I wish all a safe journey through this Sandy Storm Story. Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: margaret on 29-Oct-12, 06:44:17 PM Staying in town--heading out now. Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: carly on 29-Oct-12, 06:59:54 PM Just breaking on the news up here, found this on NY Times..no details yet: 4 Story apartment building in New York. Hope there are no casualties.
MAN 2-ALARM 92 8TH AVE, MULTIPLE DWELLING BUILDING COLLAPSE Everyone is safe, details here on the Guardian. Police got everyone out, the facade of the building fell off. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/us-news-blog/2012/oct/29/hurricane-sandy-new-york-live-blog (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/us-news-blog/2012/oct/29/hurricane-sandy-new-york-live-blog) Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: NoraH on 29-Oct-12, 08:29:41 PM Margaret, I hope your family does ok, were they evacuated?
Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Donna on 29-Oct-12, 10:18:49 PM I'm still here and still have power! The next street up and beyond are out. We were spared for the moment. Sitting here watching the horrific damage in the surrounding areas. I am scared beyond scared as we are not used to Hurricanes here. Now I know how my family feels down in Fla. I could NEVER handle a Katrina, you would have to put me out for 2 days. Sorry for those who had trees, (my family in Denville), that have fallen on or near their homes. I will be there to help them when this passes. Bless them all and us who were spared for now. Thank you all for your concerns. I will NOT sleep tonight!
Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: NoraH on 29-Oct-12, 10:38:59 PM Where abouts are you Donna? Denville too or just your family is there? Hang in there kiddo!
Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Donna on 29-Oct-12, 10:42:22 PM Where abouts are you Donna? Denville too or just your family is there? Hang in there kiddo! I'm 4 miles from Denville Norah, not too far. Thanks Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: carly on 30-Oct-12, 06:01:32 AM 5:56 am est and the wind is still howling here, we've been up since 2 am laying in the dark. I've never heard wind like that and it's nothing compared to what the US got.
16 dead this morning in the US as per the news, fires, explosions and 6 million without power! And it's not even light yet... 1 dead here, only 100,000 without power and 1 fire going on downtown. I hope everyone here is safe and I worry about all the raptors in NY and NJ this morning. Please let us know when you can that you are safe! Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: MAK on 30-Oct-12, 06:50:00 AM Good here. Heard from Ei this morning and she's ok. Waiting to hear from Donna.
Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Shaky on 30-Oct-12, 07:12:15 AM Nothing much happened in the Rochester area. Some trees down and some power outages, mostly near the lake shore. Downtown and the nest box are in fine shape.
Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: carly on 30-Oct-12, 07:31:55 AM Morning! Good to hear from both of you and glad to hear Kitty is okay too!
Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Donna on 30-Oct-12, 08:04:57 AM Checking in! All good here and we have power. What a horrible night it was. I finally fell asleep in between gusts! Never heard such wind in my life and never want to again. So much damage around here and we are so so lucky, others aren't. Some of my friends and family have suffered big damage from trees hitting their homes. Most roads are blocked, no traffic lights working for miles, it's just not good. I hope others who endured this bad girl Sandy will check in if they can. Going to walk around the hood in a while to see just what Sandy did. Phew, thanks!
Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: carly on 30-Oct-12, 08:07:16 AM Yay Donna and Beauty both safe too! Be careful out there.
Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: valhalla on 30-Oct-12, 08:08:38 AM A-ok here in Owings, 3 miles from Chesapeake Beach, MD!
Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Tokira on 30-Oct-12, 09:32:38 AM A wild night for sure, though it appears at the moment from my windows, that my neighborhood is unscathed...
SERIOUS rain, and shrieking wind most of the night. Power never faltered here at my house, that would have been a nuisance since I have electric heat and no alternate heat source, and it's only 39° here this morning. :phew: Carol Five miles West of the Shenandoah River in WV Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: margaret on 30-Oct-12, 12:07:24 PM Glad everyone is ok, and thatBeauty was seen this morning. So far so good. Never lost power; even family on LI didn't lose power! The worst is over.
Parts of NYC and NJ look pretty hard hit! Thoughts are with them. Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Lynne in New Hampshire on 30-Oct-12, 12:43:16 PM Had bad winds and rain last night-never lost power! Today 65 degress sunny-like just like we had a thunderstorm! Hope everyone is safe and gets power soon. Prayers to all who have damage!

Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Dumpsterkitty on 30-Oct-12, 06:36:42 PM Finally home! All is well...not even getting a cold shoulder from the kitties! You could see where there had been some trees down along the way, but they're cleared up now. Power-phone-cable...it's all good.
My brother is fine-no power, but no damage. Cousin in Little Falls NJ had a tree come through the side of the house. They're all safe. Cousin in Sound Beach LI had a tree on her roof & a small hole, but otherwise fine. Her sister further out has the LI sound in her front yard, but the house is OK & they're OK. That cousin's son lives in Howard Beach Queens-his car is under water, but otherwise they're fine despite ignoring the evacuation warnings... And I think that's it for now... Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Bonnie on 30-Oct-12, 06:48:44 PM We were 'spared' here. I think it was because we are on the west side of a hill. There is terrible tree damage that took two young lives. Parks are closed and Verplanck had boats washed up on the road.

Some incredible pictures! Mind boggling Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: jeanne on 30-Oct-12, 11:26:05 PM So glad you are ok, Bonnie!
So hard to believe the destruction this caused. One of the ABC weathermen said it was a noreaster with a hurricane embedded. Unbelievable Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Dot_Forrester on 02-Nov-12, 08:34:12 PM We just got our power back today (Friday) after being in the dark and cold since the middle of the night Monday. I live near Allentown and millions of homes were without power because of the high winds that caused trees to fall on power lines. It took till yesterday for most of the stores and restaurants to open. Walmart is still without power, a big surprise. Crews from all over the east came in to help restore power and things are finally getting back to normal for most of us. The news is not so good for Long Beach Island, a barrier island along the New Jersey shore between Atlantic City and Seaside. My sister lives there and had to evacuate. Looks like it will be a long time before any residents are allowed back on the island. I just watched a video taken a couple of days ago from the air. The dunes are almost completely gone and the streets are either flooded with water or filled with sand that was formerly on the beach. I've seen plenty of hurricanes hit LBI but have never seen such total devastation. So very sad. It was great to finally get back online and learn that our falcons are all OK.

Not that I'm aware of, but I may not have a good recollection of where everyone lives. Those I can think of... Colleen T & Lynne in NH don't usually post, but I see they've logged in as of yesterday. Kapi in VT I've seen on FB & she's OK. Ginny-who doesn't post much here, but does regularly on ustream & FB-had some minor damage but is OK. Judith on ustream is OK too. Quaint town was largely spared from Hurricane Sandy damage! In the end, however, most said that they had electricity, utilities and internet throughout Sandy’s wrath. Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: Donna on 07-Nov-12, 09:21:47 PM Some places in New Jersey are measuring almost 6 inches already and winds are gusting to 40mph under the mesocale banding...almost blizzard conditions! Transformers are popping left and right. What a mess!
From NJ weather Well, here we go again! My brother just got his power back on tonight from Sandy! :surprise: Title: Re: Noreasticane Sandy Post by: MAK on 07-Nov-12, 09:38:43 PM :snow2: :help: :(
