Title: Polar Bears and CITES
Post by: Bobbie Ireland on 06-Mar-13, 11:22:02 AM
"Canada is the only country that permits the export of polar bear parts." WHAT?!

Confusing I know especially in light of the fact they are threatened but it's the 'consitutional right' of the Inuit peoples to live and hunt off the land.  Touchy subject up here; same with the 'seal hunt'.

I'm just stating the way it is so before anyone lurking out there jumps on me - this is fact not a personal opinion I'm expressing.

You know, that occurred to me later, Carly.

Its sad and pathetic. Its one time I hope our politicians are talking out of the side of their mouths. Barely saying dont ban it while shaking their heads yes. I do hope Canada loses. Heck pay the 600 Inuit $4500 for each pelt they would get but dont allow the hunt, to me thats tax money better spent than the way some money gets thrown around.

2 beautiful creatures, sad! I just never understood how anyone could harm a seal pup. Like Polar Bears numbers aren't declining without hunting them. I don't like these topics. I always feel sick after.  :(  I don't believe a "RUG" is a necessity!

Further on this point... I am beginning to wonder about CITES... and most other international "protection" agencies. Bad words are in my head.
