Owl in box Sat and Sun. I'm not ready. Did emergency maintenance Sun night. No owl today. Could still get early nesting. Hope not.

Owl in the nest box today.

Today's owl. I can't help but think nesting is on its mind, and that it's a month too early. Not that I get any say.

It doesn't appear that there's any activity here this year..nothing on Twitter by Chris and no blog postings since Feb.

He doesn't seem to have much time for updating his site. Hopefully there is action but we just don't know about it yet...

Someone messaged me on Twitter, asking if I knew anything about Chris and what's going on.  She's direct messaged him and emailed him from his blog with no answers from him.  She's worried..anyone know anything?

Chris has been dealing with pretty difficult work-related issues for a while; hopefully things will start easing up now. He said I could report that there are four healthy owlets in the owl box; their eyes aren't open yet - just hatchlings. He is getting and saving the traditional 15-second (if I remember correctly) black-and-white captures and when he has time he says he plans to start putting up the traditional "dailies."  He is not getting the fancy video he had last year, but we'll take what we can get, huh. As for when we can expect to start seeing them, no one can say. Who knows, maybe we'll have an off-season nest box to keep us entertained this year! In any case, all is well.

Thanks, Dale!  I'll pass the info along!

yep. I just watched (full screen) a tiny owlet sitting up in a mess of flat-out, snoring siblings, gazing at the entryway and doing that very careful head-calibration that owlets do. I'm honored . . . moved . . . and besotted.

if by "big" you mean maybe thumb-sized  ;D screeches ... but yeah, we missed the microscopic stages.
Although they're all there in the dailies.

Wow this season has zipped past us!

April 21 – Owlets 1 and 2 left the nest box shortly after sunset. Owlet 1 climbed high into the nest box tree and then made a flight to one of the large hackberry trees at the back of the yard, where the owlets always end-up sooner or later. Owlet 2 climbed to a less promising place in the nest box tree, and was considering trying to make the flight to one of the hackberrys, when one of its parents perched in a crepe myrtle tree adjacent to the nest box tree, and began calling to the owlet, who then changed direction and climbed into the upper branches of the crepe myrtle. So, both owlets made it to places of safety.

Owlet 3 has left the nest box.
Owlet 3 is on the rail, considering its options.
Owlet 3 is being fed while perched on the rail.
Owlet 3 is off the rail and perched in the nest box tree.
Owlet 3 has begun traversing the nest box tree.
Owlet 3 is now in the crepe myrtle tree adjacent to the nest box tree and is being fed.
...and now it's back in the nest box tree.
I've lost sight of owlet 3, but one of the parents is here watching carefully.
I've lost track of owlet 3, but it is mobile, and under the watchful eyes of its parents, and that ought to be good enough.
Good luck kiddo.

Owlet 4 has just exited the nest box.
Owlet 4 is in the nest box tree.
Not climbing, yet.
Climbing.
Owlet 4 is considering its next move very carefully.
I saw my first firefly of the season the night owlets 1 & 2 left. Great to have them around. Not so the Mosquitos.
Owlet 4 is in no hurry. One of adults is on guard nearby, however.
Dead on my feet. Gonna have to give up soon... While I'm still on my feet.
Owlet 4 still considering its next move. Parent(s) still watchful, calling to owlet.
No change with the owls, but I have to give up. Sorry, folks. Good luck owls and owlets.

I've been checking Chris' website regularly for updates and finally found one. No need to start a new topic...hope things go smoother for him next year.

Chris’ Eastern Screech Owl Nest Box Cam’

Growing screech owls on the Internet since 2000.

(Formerly at <http://gargravarr.cc.utexas.edu/owl/>.)

2016? No cam' this year, I regret. A combination of exhaustion and multiple hardware failures mean that bringing-up the cam' was more than I could manage. As I result, I don't know what's going on in the nest box. I know the owls were considering nesting there, but that's all.

I can only offer my sincere regrets to this cam's many long-time viewers, and my apologies for the lack of communication.

I just saw this on twitter...

 Chris W. Johnson @ChrisOwlCam

Just got home to find the owl box tree disintegrated during today's rain. Should go out and see if box survived, but not up to that yet.

Glad it was the off season...
