Title: 2016 Juvie sightings
Post by: Dumpsterkitty on 16-Nov-16, 08:36:40 PM
Joyce posted this over on Facebook...

This pic was taken at Montezuma in September by James Labiak (from Buffalo area). Does anyone have any idea where this juvie peregrine might be from? It looks like it had a black over green ID band, but only BA on the green portion is visible. Is that a purple USFW band or purple tape?

Addendum: Color on left leg is RED as commented below. Consensus so far - this is 2016 Matilda ("Tilly")

I do hope this is Matilda! I would love to see the photo, but all that is visible is a "Not Available" sign.

The photo is now visible, thank you! What a beautiful juvie.

Chances are this is Matilda. Her bands were switched. Black/Green on the right leg and the silver USFW band covered in red tape on the left. It's always wonderful to see our young ones doing well after they leave Rochester.

I had tried using a link directly from Facebook but it didn't work. I had to copy it to Flickr. I guess you opened it before I started modifying it.

Wow! What a handsome juvie! I think this does look like Leo. For what it's worth, after pushing the image as far as I can in Photoshop, I am fairly sure that the bottom part of the band is BA.

If this is indeed Leo, he has travelled quite a distance, especially for a male juvie. The distance from Rochester to Hampton Beach State Park is at least 430.9 miles.

I looked on the FB page of the man who reported the sighting.  He has a better pic posted where bands look more like 22/BE..comments say it's a female that was banded in Haverhill, MA.

Ah, well, he/she is beautiful even if it's not Leo.  And having the time of its life!

I also found one more photo of the bird . . . don't know if it is the same one you found, Kris. The bands are not very clear in this one either. Could be BE.

I agree, Patsy! A beautiful juvie.

In October, 22/BE was in Providence, Rhode Island. Both Peter Green and Craig Gibson took some beautiful photos of her.
