The pigeons just won't let the owls in the nest. They sure try. New videos on the site.

Pigeons will be discouraged for sure. Even the steinuil have difficulty to enter.
Fortunately they are slimmer during feeding of the youngs, necause the have so much round trip to do  :crying:

The juvie has problem with one leg. They think that he will not survive because he will not be able to hunt.
It seems to be a congenital anomalie.
But here in MTL Polly survive with the help of her mother and father. She had a BB who died last week unfortunately.
Bad year for all species of birds

That's so sad, they never had problems before this. Poor baby.  :crying:

I wish they would help that little baby owl. It's just flapping around with 1 leg stuck straight out. Very sad to watch it suffer.  :crying:

Sorry, Donna, it's too late to help the leg but they could still rescue it and keep it in a sanctuary.  This little darling will never get out of the box with that leg, he will starve unless someone does something before the parents expect it to start it's fledge routine, which it can never accomplish.

I don't think they like to help over there. They let nature be.  :crying: I'm not watching anymore, can't bear it.

From what I read on the weblog, there is still a change that the owlet is strong enough to fledge, for now he's doing well. Then in about two weeks when its fledging time,it has to fledge on his own,if that's impossible then there is a big problem.I can't even think about that.
It's hard to watch, but at least the owlet is doing well at this moment.

The little Stone Owl has died!  :crying:  June 25

The chick of the owl is deceased. Who the developments of recent times has followed this knows that there for a while was coming. Nevertheless, the final moment is always sad.

This weekend we could soon be seeing less. The young no longer begged for food and showed little resilience. The young owl has to include many forces lost by the flawed leg.

Ronald Harxen has already announced on the blog for the bird to investigate. Hopefully we get a result at least a little more clarity about what exactly was going on.

This has been hard to watch. I knew it wasn't going to end well for the little one.  :(

There was nothing wrong with that owlet.  It was perfectly healthy and could have been saved
with proper attention to the leg when it was still only a week old and the problem was discovered.
The leg could have been "hobbled" and the chick put back with the mother to continue raising.
When the leg corrected, the hobbles could have been removed and the chick would have grown
normally and fledged to the wild. They have access to band, so why not help the chick??
This is bound to happen again if they do not put some kind of "rough" surface on the nest floor.
This problem is usually caused by the chick not being able to gain footing as it crawls around
and is unable to keep its feet under it.
Just my opinion, but it comes from experience.......successful experience.

They could have done something, they should have done something. It's very sad,I couldn't
watch it the last week. There was a lot of disagreement on the forum there,so I stopped reading all that.

I know people were getting into it as to what should or shouldn't be done.  It was tough to watch and read. Like someone said on another Forum-with so many watching, there should have been an intervention but because they choose to not intervene, it's just better to not watch. At least now the little one isn't suffering anymore.

Experience the Spring 2013 edition 7 is also the owls again. It unfortunately is not the season that we had hoped for it. The start looked promising, but for some unknown reason disappearance of the male was a turning point. Initially we were confident that there would register a new candidate. When we then returns almost hope, suddenly hit two appeared on the scene. However, neither had sight tempted to explore how the breeding space inviting the female also fielded. The reason it makes it only guess, but one of the suggestions was that they were the two neighbor neat pile height who came to take but ultimately remained faithful to their partner. We will never know for sure. The cameras provide answers to many questions, but also raise new always on. Ultimately did not see the female in front of the cameras.
As said, the season is over. Elsewhere, most young fledged or going to do the next week. This breaks a crucial period in the life owl: pick the next breeding season. Who knows, we greet the coming season two of the survivors for the cameras.
Rest of us all who participated this season has warmly thank Geert clip maker, grill makers Anneke, Hansel and Mary and of course the family in whose yard it all could happen again. Our thanks also for the many donations!
On March 1, 2014 the cams go back online and hopefully the owls present again!
On behalf STONE thanks for watching!

No eggs this season as the male seemed to have disappeared and female didn't take to the new male.  :(
