Title: "Lurker Come Out Week" This means you!
Post by: Donna on 09-Oct-11, 07:14:42 AM
When: October 10-14
Why:  Because you signed up and then you disappear!

COME OUT, COME OUT WHERE EVER YOU ARE. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM ALL OUR LURKERS!

IF ONLY FOR A DAY, LET US HEAR FROM YOU!

Example: MAK, she was a lurker and look at her now. You can do this people, I know you can. With the Winter months approaching, it gets pretty boring. Why not have some fun and join in on the conversations. (You can do it)  (http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae216/DWBHClub/Smileys/lurksmiley-vi.gif)

LOL!  Donna this is funny!  I usually lurk but part of it is cause I use my iPhone to tether for internet during this time of year.  Can't wait to migrate and use the wi fi much more often!
I used to lurk and sometimes still do but these people are so darn friendly you shouldn't lurk long!

COME OUT COME OUT FROM WHERE EVER YOU ARE! (BTW used the Color Orange in honor of a dear friend with MS!

Lurking is no fun people! Come out of your shell like I did and see what a whole new world it opens up for you!

We ALL started out as lurkers.  I remember when I left my first post on the Kodak Birdcam discussion board.  I just stared and stared at the post, wondering if anyone would take notice and then...........wow!  Someone answered my question!  I was so excited.

Come on everyone!  It's time to leave that first post.  Ask any question about the Falcons.  If possible, it will be answered.

OK now out of 732 members....(get this)...502 of our members have NOT 1 post!!

These are very bad numbers! (http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq110/Speedo_Ghost/Smiley/thumbdown.gif)

So, I guess we can be sure that 502 of you will be joining us this week!!

No more lurking, please join us! (http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc236/ndchamp/lurkers.jpg)

Note: 502, give or take 2 or 3

I'm curious as to why "Lurker Come Out Week" is in October.  It seems to me that most of those 502 non-posters who were mildly curious enough to sign up during nesting season would be long gone by now, leaving only the diehards who come here every day for "scraps" of news about the falcons (like me  ;D )  The lurkers should be encouraged to join in during the height of the season when they are more likely to be here, I would think.

Just my observation.

I'm here, sort of  :silly:  I get the post in the e-mail, just seems like I don't get around to coming to the board very often to reply.

This spring I got way behind on any of the birds, whether here or through RRP, which is more local for me, because with the broken ankle I couldn't sit by the computer very long.  Nothing like messing myself up the 9th of May, sure goofed up my spring and summer peregrine/eagle-wise.  Just now able to walk totally on my own albeit slowly.

Happy birthday to all I've missed!!!

It's not really an Oct. thing, I was just looking at the stats this morning and thought, let's try and get some people who joined to post. We've had lots sign up after the nesting season, so what better way to bring them out. I was just hoping we could get some newbies in on some of the conversations. Some may have great Bird stories they would like to share, opinions on AB, U and whoever else comes along. No one has to leave the board after fledging, (even though we had none this year)! Most of the people who singed up are from 2009-2010 season, when we had babies. I'm sure a lot has to do with the forum format, even that goes smooth once you get the hang of it. The Winter months can be very long and boring so what better way to pass the time then to be with friends!! Just my opinion also..

OK PEOPLE!  Get busy with at least stooping in to say hi!    These people on here don't bite!  Have lots of smarts to help with any question you might think of!  They are so helpful!  They have gotten behind me and our HUGS for the Military Pepsi Challenge.  Helped our Elkhart Chapter win and did their VERY BEST to help Kentucky get up there.  This a one big caring group over here!!

 :2thumbsup:

Yeah, I am wondering about that 20 percent thing too.  They have such speed, and birds have such eyesight -- where did that percentage come from?    It seems rather low.

Donna, wouldn't the "on line stats" tell you who really is lurking and who is gone forever??
My on line time is right up there with the regular posters and I almost never make any
comments.  I really do qualify as a lurker!

Well out of all the members here...about 30 are regular posters. Online stats tell me they are lurking but not posting. Was just hoping more would be out this week. Trying! (http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb43/dans_playmate/forum%20smileys/crying.gif)

No, not really NYC, you post, not all the time but you do. I'm trying to get the 0's to post.

I am a long time lurker. I first joined the old Kodak board, and I am a member on the Yahoo board also. I used to post something once in a while on that board, but I have never posted on this board. I love to read it, and I keep up, but I have never really figured out how this board works, so I don't post. I used to always say a big "Thank You" to all the fabulous watchers on Lurker Come Out Day. I will do that now.

I check in on a number of cams but this one is so superior because the watchers fill in the whole story, not just the events in the nestbox. I am a very grateful lurker for all that the active members do. Mary Alice in Charlotte (that's North Carolina)

YAY, welcome MaryAlice, so glad you posted. Thank you and please keep trying with this forum, it gets real easy after a few posts.
Please, lurk no more!

I've found that having the Forum posts sent out on the kfalconcam list helps me immeasurably.  I don't have the time nor the patience to search forums for stuff to read, but even though the many tweets don't affect me as I'm WAY out of the area, I can see all the new posts, and then use the read more feature to follow what I wish to follow

It's funny, NYC -- to me, you are not a lurker. I see your posts, and consider you a "regular".  Not frequent, but a regular with great posts.  .
it is funny, I do post, and love our falcons, but consider myself a "lurker" too.  I would love to be more active in observing  our falcons right down on the "scene" but I can't right now.   So maybe we have to define "lurker".

Mary Alice in NC -  I consider myself a "techno-moron"  ( I really do use that term to describe myself at work).   There are  many things I do not know, but once you get used to it, this is fairly easy to navigate.  Don't be shy about posting your thoughts, opinions, feelings, about what you see.

I consider a lurker as "Someone who signed up, reads the posts but doesn't post"  , they just LURK Nothing wrong with that but we'd like to hear from you ALL!! (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b311/meeotch/smileys/lurking.gif)

I've never read any tweets, but otherwise that's exactly what I do, skim through the e-mail posts and hit read more if it's something I want.

And yes Carla, I'm finally walking on my own, but still have to walk slow to get everything working in there again.  Bones healed perfectly though.  And next time I won't turn around fast to avoid a fall, that's how I ended up falling.

O.K. I confess; I'm a lurker--:) but, not really, I read a lot of the posts
about our falcons and enjoy the cams very much and enjoy information on them and
their activities; if I were involved with all the many activities a few people
here are involved in or had the time for I'd be able to give more imput or
something to share, it doesn't mean disinterest and unappreciative of other's
efforts. I appreciate every bit all of the hard work folks here are able to put
into it. I am more aware of other kinds of bird species; we even got our
national parks senior pass this past summer at Montezuma and have never been
thru there before and saw osprey, eagles and lots of egrets, etc. Wonderful
experience. I'm sure we'll make it there again. My husband really loves the
eagles so we're always looking for them thru our car's sun roof when we travel!
Wish the peregrines were more easily spotted. The cameras make that much easier
and something to look forward to seeing. Can't wait 'til spring for the
excitement to begin. We keep our eyes to the skies when we can.

I find this forum is a bit time-consuming--a lot of posts to get through; (it
was so much simpler before the new forum adn this is just a bit overwhelming.
Too many categories, and we've never figured how to post pics. :( Too
complicated for this senior brain! But, thank you all again so much for your
great work and dedication. Christiane  (ON KFC)

Some of us only get on the forum once or twice a week.   Cool place to find some birding news.  I used to be a member of GOSS when it was around.

And a very good try it was!  As someone suggested, many nesting season lurkers have probably already gone into hibernation.  Maybe a coming out week in April will be more productive.

Absolutely Paul, I was just hoping for more people joining our Fall/Winter conversations. We had fun with Mr T last year. Hope he entertains us again this year, well only if Archer leaves. He does need a vaca!! :)
