Mommie and Bullet, finally! Carol took this yesterday. I have a friend in Florida who wanted a picture. There was a photo shoot going on at the bridge with bikini clad models and Bullet was VERY interested. We worked hard to get his attention to the camera! It finally worked. The best part was when Brian and I went up to the photo shoot and he gave one of the models a big, sloppy kiss on her face! Wish I had a picture of that.  :o

Figured I'd take a break from member approving and post a photo of my Angel Kitty.  She's not too big on having her picture taken but I did manage to get her to sit still for a photo class assignment...not an easy task!

My Gizmo (13yrs) is playing invisable here because if you look closely you can see on the other side of the screen door is my love bird and parakeet in their bird room. My cats love to hang out here because the two little guys have free flight and like to tease..nah nah you can't get us. :2funny: Everyones pets are so sweet lil pups and kitties  totally huggable each one

Well, this is my first post.  Strange that on a board that is dedicated to our Queen, her grandson Archer & his bride, Beauty, none of the pets are birds.

Here is Bug, a 3" parrotlet.  He has an ego that would even go up against a raptor (he doesn't understand he's so little)

Oh Kyrie you missed my 3 I posted. One is my avatar (Baley) and 2 are in my last post with my kitty Gizmo. But you do have to look close because they are behind the screen door. Here's my baby, Buddy, also a parrotlet  . Buddys a lutino parrotlet and I know what you mean by not realizing hes tiny!! He constantly flys to my Baleys (Ekkie 10+ inches) cage and wants to rumble  :playnice: I luv my feathered friends    BUG is very handsome ..
Whoops I almost forgot my last 2 girls. And thats the gang..

They were but now they're 4 years old and not as cuddley with each other. One is a torti and the other gray tiger striped.

Bullet and Casey look so friendly. I miss my dogs.. I had a black lab and a Rhodesian ridgeback before my birds. They are such loves.

Bridgets my baby, and sabastian is a big cuddle bug. I've never met a cat that likes attention (and food) as much as he does lol

One more bird for this  topic.  Here is Fidget, snuggling up with my daughter.  He will hold this pose for a very long time.  One of the most frequent things he says is "Chirp!" -- not a chirp, but the word.   He also frequently assures me that I'm a good bird.   Last May was the third anniversary of his hatching, so he and Rhea Mae are about the same age.  He also fledged on the same day she did.

This is my little Wonder Bird Weavie
Weavie is an orange bishop African weaver finch.  Weavie was wild caught and came to live with me on Feb 4, 1987.  He has a ''frozen'' left foot due to injury when he was 5 years old and he is still chasing his harem of 3 little female finches. He is my oldest bird.

What a beautiful finch. I love his colors. I had no idea finches lived such long lives. Goodness 22 years :surprise: Hes wonderful Thank you for sharing Wonder Bird Weavie's picture

Here are my two pets -- Eric, a Three-toed Box Turtle, and Spot, our 17-year-old Black (with a white spot on her chest) Cat.  Eric wanted to show off his eating abilities -- he loves meal-worms and bananas...in fact, that's all he loves!  However, considering he is over 35 years old, it must be okay!

Meal worms and bananas sound ummm uummm ok I can't think about it right now I just ate heehee What a kewl pet Eric is. My friend in AZ had to get some type of state approval to have his turtle and his housing (the turtles) had to be specific to code and inspected too. Thats where I met my first turtle pet. He was a loved little guy.  Spot  :kittykiss: is a sweety too

Toby was the runt of the litter (believe it or not) when we adopted him at age 6 weeks from Lollypop Farm 10 yrs ago.  He started getting heavy after we had him neutered so the Vet put him on a diet which he has been on practically his whole life.  When we go for check-ups, after he gets weighed, she just says "Toby is Toby". He only gets a 5 oz. can of wet food and a 1/4 cup dry/day and that's it-no table food or anything.  He just maintains his weight at about 21-22 lbs. He does have IBD so he's on Prednisone every 3 days but this amount of food is what makes him comfortable with few flare-ups.  Of course, he is an indoor cat and all he does is eat and sleep so...
I also want to say to all the others that have posted pics of their pets-what beautiful pets everybody has.  :2thumbsup:

Kris

I think he's gorgeous!  I love a comfortable cat! :2thumbsup: We've had several very large cats and the only thing I didn't like was lifting them up, when they didn't want to be lifted up, and cutting their nails, as they were very strong!

I love the pics of all your fur babies and birdies :) We had fresh water fish and loved watching them in their tanks it was very zen like. I had tri colored sharks, Angel fish, clown loaches etc. for years. Never made it to Salt water fish though.

Hi Kris!

I think he's gorgeous!  I love a comfortable cat! :2thumbsup: We've had several very large cats and the only thing I didn't like was lifting them up, when they didn't want to be lifted up, and cutting their nails, as they were very strong!

Anne C. (Toronto, ON Canada)
[/quote]

Anne,

It's a killer to lift him up because he weighs so much but as for cutting his nails-he actually purrs while Bill is cutting them!  Why??  Because he knows he gets 2 treats for nail cutting!!
This is the only time he gets treats because of the weight issue (ssshhh-don't tell our Vet).

These are our cats, Jazz (gray) and Mittens (black). Jazz likes to scrunch into small hiding places and she loves to eat. She is especially fond of lettuce, of all things. Mittens likes to roll over for tummy rubs and is excellent at jumping to the highest places in our home. She loves to walk outside on her leash and stalk bugs. They both like to "help" us with whatever we're doing, and are wonderful companions.

I thought I would introduce my dog Nina.  She is also my avatar.  She is 11 years old and we adopted her as a puppy from Lollypop Farm where I work.  You can read more about her on my blog, Bird Brains & Dog Tales (http://birdbrainsanddogtales.wordpress.com/2009/07/07/ninas-turn/).  She posted a nice bio of herself there (with a little help)

I would also like to introduce my current office cat, Marie (http://birdbrainsanddogtales.wordpress.com/2009/08/15/meet-miss-marie/).  She is available for adoption at Lollypop Farm in Fairport, NY.  For the out of towners reading this post, Lollypop Farm  (http://www.lollypop.org/) is the local Humane Society.  This weekend we are having special pricing on all cats  (http://www.lollypop.org/orgmain.asp?storyType=3&storyid=673) and kittens to help alleviate the flood of them that always happens this time of year.  Adult cats 1 year and older are FREE!!!   :2thumbsup:

Sorry for the plug, but it gets really crowded in the shelter with all the cats during the summer months.  If anyone is in the Rochester area and has been thinking of adding a cat to their home now is the time.  I am sure Shaky will be beating a hasty path there as soon as he reads this!  :kittykiss:

I don't know if it was someone from this board or just someone that saw her on the Lollypop Farm web site and came in to see her, but I am so happy that she has a new home.

Thanks to anyone that may have added a new member to their family this weekend or anytime you adopt from any shelter.  All of us that work in the animal welfare field are always thankful for all those of you that think to adopt from a shelter / rescue group.

P.S. Would love to hear if you were the one that adopted her.

I named her Lucky because I thought she was a lucky kitty because I found her....yes there was only one......I fed her like this for about 3 weeks until another mommy cat delivered her 3 babies. Then She new mommy adopted Lucky...actually she adopted Lucky the night she gave birth. What a sweetie the new mom was too.  Lucky wasn't so Lucky after all.........she got sick when she was about 1 year old and I had to have her put down.....oh what a heartbreak.!! :crying:  It was months before I could look at her pictures......i still cry sometimes when I think about her (like now) ....She was cremated and now she is right here by my computer......her favorite place to sleep, except for my lap of course. She will forever have a very special place in my heart!!    Such a beautiful sweetheart!

Very handsome kitties  :eyecat: The other day while traveling in my car hubby spoted a cat riding on his owners shoulders as he peddled his bike. It was a wild site but maybe Simon would like that too. He was curled around his neck just like your picture but the cat was pure white.

Although I've posted these photos of my pets before, these are in a better size range, so that you don't end up with a huge, fuzzy photo, when you open each one!  The 3-toed box turtle is +35 year old Eric and the black cat is 17-year old Spot.  This time I've also included my not-pets, but balcony friends, two variegated pigeon squabs.  They are about a third of the size of a regular pigeon, but will soon be full-sized and flying away. :( Already they can fly from the balcony floor to the railing and are quite excited about it!  How can I tell?  Their little chests are puffing away and they are vibrating all over! I hope you enjoy these photos more, now that they are each a more viewable size!

Yes, Anne, the pix are a lot easier to see now. I'm curious about Eric. Where did you find him, and where does he live? When I was just married we had a red-eared turtle named Touche that lived in our aquarium.  We had him 9 years, from a baby sold in the 5 & 10 store  :nono: to a handsome 8"-long guy. He was a surprisingly good pet, always climbing up on his rock island to greet us whenever we walked into the room and asking little more than a couple of his favorite fish (gourami) to chase down for dinner.

Box turtles' average life span can be around 40 years although some species (there's 4 different species of box turtle) can live to over 100 years old! :surprise:

Hi Anne, the pictures are great, how  do you sent them? The pets are great too. The pigeons are fluffy!
I like the turtle, we had one for 40 years at my parents house, he lived in the garden. During the winter we put lots of leaves and other things in his little wooden house, to keep him warm during his hibernation. He digs himself into the ground. One year we digged him out during a very cold winter, probably 1963?  When my parents moved to a flat, I took him, but my garden is very open and cold and he was sick all the time. At least we took him to the reptile zoo. They were very happy with him and said: wow thats a great female Moorish turtle, we like to have her, she can lay eggs!

Malou is a grand looking dog!  My neighbor has a pure-bred male boxer that looks so much like Malou.  The exception is that Gator's tail and ears have been docked.  From the size of her feet in the puppy photo, I bet you knew she would be very large!

And this is Bentley, aka Mr. B, who turned 3 today.  I got him as a baby and he is a blue shar pei.  I didn't name him either but because I have a Mariah, his middle name is Skye!

It's funny... I saw a picture of Mariah as a puppy.  When I saw her name, I thought "what are the chances that a dog would have that special name.  I was debating whether I should get her as a companion for my 12 year old shar pei Harley.  I thought it might be disruptive to him so I didn't.  He died later that year and Mariah was returned to the breeder because the family was allergic to her fur.  So I got the call and visited her.  Her and Bentley's breeders  (they know each other )felt the two of them would get along and they were right.

Bentley's breeder used to follow the falcon cam, not sure if she still does.

Wild coincidences! :dogwag:

Yes, Anne, the pix are a lot easier to see now. I'm curious about Eric. Where did you find him, and where does he live? When I was just married we had a red-eared turtle named Touche that lived in our aquarium.  We had him 9 years, from a baby sold in the 5 & 10 store  :nono: to a handsome 8"-long guy. He was a surprisingly good pet, always climbing up on his rock island to greet us whenever we walked into the room and asking little more than a couple of his favorite fish (gourami) to chase down for dinner.

Dot in PA

Sorry that my response to your question is so slow, Dot!  We also had little red-eared slider turtles when we were kids -- you'd buy them at the local Woolworth's and keep them in a round bowl, that had a ramp up to a plastic palm tree...  I'm glad that they aren't available like that today, as I'm sure most of them were forgotten, not fed properly and got soft shell... :crying: My brother was very interested in biology (later got his PhD in Biology!) and made sure ours were always treated properly.
As far as our box turtle -- he was a rescue.  The fellow at the petstore knew us well, as we'd bought other reptiles and hung around the place.  One of the reasons we settled in the Cabbagetown area of Toronto, was the pet store, which caters to reptiles.  Anyway, Eric was a great deal smaller and the interest in him had passed, so the mother brought him back to the petstore.  The owner called us and the rest is history!  I'm glad that there are more laws in place these days, to keep reptiles where they belong -- out in their own region and living free.
Eric has a good sized wooden terrarium, with his own pond, hollow log, an eating dish and a sliding glass door that he can push open and stick his head out (but not get out!).  The ground is rounded, medium-sized pebbles -- he can walk on them, dig in them -- whatever he feels like.  He also has a big tub that he swims in on warm day, out on the balcony!  Eris also walks around on my desk, getting into mischief and looking over the edge.  I don't know how or why, but he knows not to walk off the edge of the desk. :o  Not that I leave him alone!  But it is kind of neat!
I'm attaching a few more photos of Eric, in his habitate.  It's not huge, but he climbs and digs and pushes his log home around to suit his mood!  I've also put on one more photo of my balcony "friends".  The pigeon fledgling, coming in for a nice landing, is one of the little ones you saw in the last photo I submitted and the other fledgling is the one closest to the balcony railing corner.  They sure do grow up fast!

Best Wishes,
Anne C. (Toronto, ON  Canada)

I am not sure if I am replying to the turtle or the shar-peis. I have not quite figured out the reply procedure.  At any rate,  I will say a word about both . The turtle is a handsome fellow, and I love the shar-peis, aka the wrinkle dog.  They have such deeply expressive faces and those wrinkles.   I can only hope that my own wrinkles look as good!

Lucky has a new brother! After losing his sister, Justice, earlier this year, a baby cockatiel named Snow has joined our family!

If I can figure out how to post pics, I will do so soon.  :)

Carol,
Sorry yo hear about Justice.
I'm sure Lucky will enjoy having Snow for company.
